Abstract
A tub shield 5 comprises a split collar with an integral hinge 10 to allow it to be opened and closed. The ability to open and close enables it to be placed on a beer tub 8 (Fig. 1). In this position it shuts off around the tub head 7 and on the surface of the tub body 8, thus containing most of the beer expelled under pressure. The head is released by lever 6. <IMAGE>
Description
TUB SHIELD
This invention relates to a Tub Shield designed to combat the problem of released beer under pressure.
The problem of released beer under pressure, or "blow out", from beer tubs, has been with the pub trade since beer has been dispensed under gas pressure. In the main it has been one particular type of tub which has created the most problems, mainly due to the tub valve not closing when the head is released. The normal way to combat a blow out is to apply rags around the tub head to stop as much liquid as possible spraying out. From my own and others experience, this is not at all successful. If a blow out is not contained in any way, the beer can shoot out and cover walls ceilings and floors as much as 4 meters away. Clothing is also covered. All in all, to clean up a blow out is both time consuming and expensive.
According to the present invention there is provided a
Tub Shield which is in the form of a collar, which is hinged on one side and split on the other. This allows for it to be opened and closed around a beer tub head.
The integral hinge allows for it to be used over and over again. In the closed position it will shut off and seal against the tub head and the top of the tub body.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to accompanying drawings in which:
Fig.1. shows a sectional view of the Shield in
the closed position shut off around the
tub head and the surface of the tub body.
Fig.2. shows the Shield in a semi-open position looking from above.
The Shield 5, can be made of any material with the right properties, but, in the event of large numbers being required it would be produced in thermoplastic, using an injection mould tool. The Shield is made like a split collar, which has a hole in the centre to allow it to fit around the tub head 7, See Fig 1. The Shield is hinged to allow it to be opened and closed as in Fig 2.
The hinge 10, known as a living hinge in the plastics moulding trade, is an integral part of the moulded Shield.
When the Shield is opened it is passed around the tub head 7, and under the gas pipe 9, and head release lever 6, then closed. It is held together and down by one hand, whilst the other hand pulls up the head release lever,
In this position the Shield shuts off around the tub head and on the surface of the tub 8, as shown in Fig 1.
thus containing most of the beer expelled under gas pressure from the tub.
Claims (2)
1. A Tub Shield, which is a hinged collar partially enclosed on the top side to allow it to be shut off on a beer tub head, and at the same time shuts off on the top surface of the beer tub body. The integral hinge allows the Tub Shield to be opened to attain its shut off position. It also allows the Shield to be used over and over again.
2. A Tub Shield as described herein with reference to
Fig 1. and 2. of the accompanying drawing.
