Abstract
A flexible tube e.g. for a ventilation duct comprises a wire helix A, an intermediate fibre layer B, a retaining cord C and an outer coating of heat shrinkable material D e.g. of polythene. After final positioning of the tube a prescribed level of heat may be applied. This will allow the outer coating to clamp the inner layers so producing a degree of rigidity that the tube may be considered self-supporting. <IMAGE>
Description
FLEXIBLE TUBE
This invention relates to an inventive enhancement tci the established standard flexible tube pl esently available.
Currently existing flexible tube is fully flexible arid the components to which they are connected require to be independently supported by a separate fixture.
This invent ion enables the same flexibility initially but upon final positioning and application of heat, the tube attains a rigidity sufficient to be deemed "self-support ing".
By example, the tube may be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure t Shows, the tube used in typical application connecting a ventilation duct and a terminal
grille outlet.
Figure i~ Illustrates the tube in detail.
There may be many variations in the basic construct ion of the tube which generally takes the form @ of a basic wire helex and an outer coating which may be rat ural or man made fibre. A further helical retaining cord may be applied.
This invent ion ut ii ises these conventional constructions while additionally applying an outer coating of a cross-l inked polyolefin type heat shrinkable material.
Once the tube has been finally positioned, the application of heat above a prescribed temperature shrinks the outer coating to a degree that it effectively clamps the other layers in the construction so making the tube sufficiently rigid that it may be considered self-support ing.
Claims (3)
1. R flexible tube comprising a wire helex base with
various intermediate coverings plus an outer coat
of heat shrinkable material.
2. P flexible tube as claimed in CLAIM 1 such that
with the application of heat the outer layer
clamps the inner construct ion.
3. R flexible tube as claimed in CLAIM 1 or CLAIM2
where the effect makes the tube sufficiently
rigid to be considered self-supporting.
