Abstract

The indicator light of a signal lamp (11) of a combined headlamp for passenger cars is formed by a filament (15), a reflector (14), a colour filter (21) having collector lenses, and optical means (19) of a lens (18). The signal lamp (11) also produces the side light by means of a filament (28) and a reflector (22), which, in conjunction with the optical means (19) of the lens (18), serves, with its reflective layer (23), to block off the colour filter (21). <IMAGE>

Description

DESCRIPTION A SIGNAL LAMP FOR MOTOR VEHICLES The invention relates to a signal lamp for motor vehicles of the type comprising a reflector, a lamp bulb and a clear lens, a coloured filter, which is disposed in the front of the lamp bulb and which has a matrix of collector lenses, a plate, which is disposed in front of the coloured filter and which has openings through which the component light bundles formed by the collector lenses pass, and a reflective layer, which is disposed on the side of the plate facing the lens.
Such a signal lamp, which produces the indicator light, is known from DE 31 48 668 Al, wherein the signal colour, which is produced by the colour filter, can only be seen by other road users when the lamp bulb is switched on. If the vehicle is required to have a side light, then an additional side lamp must be provided.
Such an arrangement is technically complex and requires additional space in the region of the motor vehicle body. Separate lamps for the signal lamp and the side lamp have been rejected for reasons of design.
Integration into the dipped-beam headlamp or high-beam headlamp has the disadvantage that the side lamp is not close enough to the vehicle edge.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a signal lamp for motor vehicles which overcomes the problem set forth under the prior art above in a technically simple manner, and which functions reliably.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a signal lamp for motor vehicles, comprising a reflector, a lamp bulb and a clear lens, a colour filter, which is disposed in the front of the lamp bulb and which has a matrix of collector lenses, a plate, which is disposed in front of the colour filter and which has openings through which the component light bundles formed by the collector lenses pass, and a reflective layer, which is disposed on the side of the plate facing the lens, the side of said plate having the reflective layer being in the form of a reflector, at whose focal point the filament for the side lamp is disposed.
Combining the indicator light and the side lamp within the signal lamp cuts down on technical outlay and reduces to a minimum the amount of space required for the signal lamp in the region of the motor vehicle body.
The invention is described further hereinafter, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a horizontal section through an embodiment of a signal lamp in accordance with the present invention, for the indicator light and side light in a left-hand-side combined headlamp for passenger cars.
A left-hand-side combined headlamp for passenger cars has a headlamp 10, part of which is sketched in, and a signal lamp 11, which is fastened thereto in a manner not shown, and which is supported on the body 12 of a passenger car, part of which is also sketched in.
The signal lamp ii has a housing 13, which is made of plastics and which has a paraboloid reflector 14, in whose focal point a filament 15 of a lamp bulb 16 for the indicator light is disposed. The latter is detachably fastened in an apex opening in the housing 13 by means of a lamp holder 17. The light exit opening in the housing 13 is blocked off by a lens 18 having optical means 19.
A colour filter 21 having a matrix of collector lenses is disposed in front of the lamp bulb 16, that is, in the direction of motion of the motor vehicle along the arrow 20, and a plate 22, which is in the form of a reflector, is disposed in front of the colour filter 21, has a substantially constant wall thickness and its side facing the lens 18 has a reflective layer 23 made of aluminium. The reflector 22 has openings 24, each opening 24 being optically associated by the colour filter 21 with a collector lens of the matrix. Each opening 24 has the shape of a truncated cone whose cross section tapers in the direction in which the light passes through, along the arrow 20.
A lamp holder 26 is fastened in a manner not shown in an opening 25 in the housing 13 and passes through an opening in the colour filter 21 and in the reflector 22.
A lamp bulb 27, for generating the side light, is inserted in the lamp holder 26 and its filament 28 is disposed at the focal point of the reflector 22, whose reflective layer has the colour of the side light. The configuration of the colour filter 21 corresponds substantially to that of the reflector 22 for the side light.
Two light beams 29 and 30 represent the indicator light: The reflector 14 reflects the light beams produced by the filament 15 parallel to its optical axis 31.
These light beams 29, 30 are then formed into component light bundles by the matrix of collector lenses of the colour filter 21, wherein each component light bundle passes through the associated opening 24 in the reflector 22, is focussed in or close to the opening and is finally scattered again by the optical means 19 of the lens 18 in a predetermined way in its entirety and form the indicator light. This design of the reflector 22 prevents the emission of coloured light in the direction of driving when the filament 15 is not switched on.
Three light beams 32-34 represent the side light: The light beams 32 to 34 produced by the filament 28 are reflected by the reflector 22 parallel to its optical axis 35. Finally, the light beams 32 to 34 are influenced in a predetermined manner by the optical means 19 of the lens 18'and together produce the side light of the signal lamp.
