Abstract

A composite rod-like tool has a two-part barrel 4 with each barrel part having two ends. One end of each part is manufactured as a flat head, a Philips head screwdriver or the like, and the opposite end of each barrel part includes a cavily 43, 44 which is of pentagon or a hexagon cross-sectional shape for accommodating a detachable tool bit 5. The tool may be assembled as illustrated so that tool bits 41, 42 or 5 may be used. <IMAGE>

Description

Title: Rod-like Tool The present invention relates to a rod-like tool.
A known rod-like tool commonly used for the tuning of electronic components, is shown in Figure 1. The rod consists of a barrel body 1 at either end of which tools in the form of regular and Phillips screwdrivers are provided.
Uses for rod-like tools currently available are very limited being often restricted to only two functions so that when different types of screws are to be adjusted, it is necessary to change the tool tips. The preparation of a wide assortment of tool tips was then needed for a single job of component adjusting or turning, which added to the cost. Furthermore, the rod-like tool is inconvenient to transport because it occupies a lot of space.
The applicant, with first-hand experience in the field of hardware manufacturing, noticing the limitations of the above-described rod-like tool, its expensiveness and inconvenience for practical use, continued his study and examination in his eager pursuit of an improved product.
Finally, after years of laboratory research and actual working experience, the inventor innovated a lower cost compactness, more convenience and improved effectiveness.
According to the present invention there is provided a composite rod-like tool having a two-part barrel each remote end of which can take a tool such as a flat head or a Phillips head screwdriver, the inner ends of the barrel parts including cavities for detachably receiving respective tool rods.
The invention will now be described further by way of example with reference to the accompany drawings in which; Figure 1 is a three-dimensional diagram of a known rod-like tool; Figure 2 is a three-dimensional exploded diagram of a rod-like tool in accordance with the invention, Figures 3 to 5 illustrate different uses to which the rod-like tool of the invention can be put, and Figure 6 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of an assembled rod-like tool in accordance with the invention.
The rod-like tool according to the invention consists of a two-part barrel with an inner tool rod assembly which can be concealed inside the main two-part barrel.
When the main barrel is assembled, the tool tips at each end thereof can perform different adjusting functions. When the barrel is separated, an assortment of the tool rods stored therein is revealed each with different tool tips. In the space needed for one prior art rod-like tool, this invention offers a composite tool affording a plurality of tool tips.
The main purpose of this invention is to provide a rod-like tool having a plurality of tool tips which is simple in design but capable of performing countless jobs.
A second feature of the invention is that three tool rod assemblies are available in a single tool making the tool compact and convenient for storage and transport.
Another feature is that now one complete tool is the equivalent of three prior art rod-like tools and with its lower cost, the composite tool is now more likely to meet the economic needs of the customer.
To enable the invention to be further understood, the following description refers to the accompanying drawings.
Referring now to Figure 2, a two-part barrel is designated 4. Each barrel part has a tool tip on one end whether it is a flat tip 41, a Phillips tip 42 or any other kind. The ends of each barrel part opposite to the included tool tips are left hollow 43, 44. The hollow ends have a diameter of 431, 432, 441 and 442 and can be of a pentagon or hexagon cross-sectional shape, according to the customer S requirement. The hollow ends are designed to have a shape complimentary to that of the inner tool rods 51, 52, 53 thus allowing them to be inserted into the open ends oE the barrel.
Apart from the availability of the two tool receiving ends 41, 42 of the two barrel parts for use, the two barrel parts can be detached and then one turned around and inserted into the hollow end of the other. This action frees for example the hollow end of the other side of the barrel 44 with a diameter of 441, 442 for use as rnay best be seen in Figure 3.
Alternatively, tool rod 5 can be inserted into the cavity 44 thus rendering the tool tip 5 ready for use, as may be seen in Figure 4. The tool rod can also be inverted and inserted into the cavity 44 to enable the tool tip on the other end of the rod to be used.
As may be seen from Figure 5, the barrel parts can also be used with other types of tool rods 51, 52, 53. Finally as may be seen from Figure 6, the main barrel part and the inner tool rod 5 can be assembled into one for transport purposes. This makes the composite tool of the invention practical for use.
