Abstract
A container for animal litter comprises a plastics material pouch 1 having two discrete compartments 2 and 3. Compartment 2 contains a quantity of compressed sawdust pellets 4 and compartment 3 contains a quantity of wood shavings 5. The pellets 4 and shavings 5 are to be used as dog or cat litter. In use for dog litter the compartment 2 is first slit open at the side 6 with a knife 7 and the pellets 4 spread out in a litter tray. The compartment 3 is slit open in a similar manner and the shavings 5 are spread out on top of the pellets 4. The litter tray 4 is thus provided with an absorbent pellet base and a top layer of shavings. For use as cat litter the order is reversed. <IMAGE>
Description
"Animal Litter Packaqinq"
This invention relates to animal litter packaging.
Generally animal litter, for example that for use by cats and dogs, is supplied in bulk form in sacks or the like. It is necessary for a user to clean out the litter tray at regular intervals and then refill the tray with an amount of litter estimated to be sufficient for a specified time period. There may be a tendency for either too much or too little litter to be used and the process can be somewhat inconvenient.
According to the present invention there is provided a packaging container comprising a plastics material pouch containing a quantity of animal litter sufficient for a designated time period.
The quantity of litter may be sufficient for a time period of, for example, a day or a week.
Preferably also the container has two distinct sections containing respectively measured quantities of first and second litter materials.
Preferably also one of the materials is compressed wood pellets and the other material is wood shavings.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of one embodiment of a packaging
container in accordance with the present invention;
and
Fig. 2 is an end view of the container of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings a packaging container for animal litter in accordance with the present invention comprises a plastics material pouch 1 having two discrete compartments 2 and 3.
Compartment 2 contains a quantity of compressed sawdust pellets 4 and compartment 3 contains a quantity of wood shavings 5.
The pellets 4 and shavings 5 are to be used as dog or cat litter. In use for dog litter the compartment 2 is first slit open at the side 6 with a knife 7 and the pellets 4 spread out in a litter tray or the like. Once all the pellets 4 have been dispersed the second compartment 3 is slit open in a similar manner and the shavings 5 are then spread out on top of the pellets 4. The litter tray 4 is thus provided with an absorbent pellet base and a top layer of shavings.
If the litter is to be used as cat litter then the order is reversed with the shavings 5 being spread on the base of the litter tray and the pellets 4 spread on top. By reversing the layers in this way allowance is made for the way in which cats tend to bury their droppings.
The basic container has compartments 2 and 3 which contain sufficient quantities of litter material for one day. It is thus a simple matter for the tray to be cleaned out each day and a further container of material opened to refill the tray with the correct amount of litter material.
The container ensures that not only is the correct overall quantity of litter material available but also that the relative quantities of pellets and shavings are correct.
If desired alternative sizes of containers can be provided for, for example, a week's supply of litter material.
Modifications and improvements may be incorporated without departing from the scope of the invention.
Claims (4)
