Description

DOOR FOR REFRIGERATORS AND/OR FREEZERS PROVIDED WITH GUIDES FOR SELECTIVELY ARRANGING THE DOOR SHELVES The present Utility Model reiates to a door for refrigerators and/or freezers the combination and shape of the parts whereof provide it with particularly usefull characteristics.

As is known,prior refrigerator and freezer doors are provided with small shelves for holding eggs,butter,bottles and other products,which shelves are arranged at given locations or may be adjusted only in a vertical direction.

A drawback of these prior doors is that the positions of the mentioned shelves can not be adjusted;moreover the side supporting elements, which bear the shelf supports,are exclusively adapted for supporting full extension shelves,provided that additional shoulders are not used,and,furthermore, the thickness of the shoulders is such as to reduce the maximum extension of said shelves.

The main object of the present invention is to provide a refrigerator and/or freezer door which is so designed as to afford the possibility of arranging the shelves or other fittings at any desired positions.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a refrigerator and/or freezer door able of supporting shelves of different lengths and, in particular, shelves having a length corresponding to the full width of the door.

These and other objects of the invention will become more apparent to those skilled in the art from the following disclosure.

The refrigerator and/or freezer door according to the present invention is essentially characterized in that it comprises a plurality of parallel horizontally extending guides,each guide being adapted for receiving and cantilever-wise supporting a shelf member or the like fitting to be selectively arranged on and along said guides.

More specifical ly,each guide is provided with a top groove and a bottom groove adapted for engaging tooth members formed on said shelves,each guide extending through the overall with of said door.

The invention will be further illustrated,by way of a not limitative example,with reference to the accompanying drawings,where: figure I is a perspective view of a portion of a refrigerator and/or freezer door; figure 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken along the line Il-Il of fig.l;and figure 3 is a front view of a refrigerator and/or freezer door provided with shelves arranged at a possible position.

With reference to the figures,the plastics material door I is mounted on the inner face of door member 2 of a refrigerator and/or freezer.

According to the invention,said door or backdoor I is provided with a plurality of parallel horizontally extending guides 3 which extend through the overall width of the back-door and are cantilever-wise arranged and made by means of a molding or the like process.

As clearly shown in figure 2,each guide 3 defines a top groove 4 and a bottom groove 5 provided for engaging,respectively,a top tooth member 6 and a bottom tooth member 7 of a shelf or other fitting,also made of a plastics or the like material.

For setting said shelf in its desired position, the tooth member 6 is engaged with the groove 4 and the tooth member 7 is successively engaged with the groove 5, which latter operation will be a snap type of operation owing to the resiliency of the material forming said tooth member 7.

As shown in figure l,the shelf 8 has a length which corresponds to a half of the full extension of the guides 3.A like shelf 8 is also shown in figure 3,at a different position. If desired,the shelf g may have a length corresponding to the full extension or span of the guides 3 and in figure 3 these shelves have been indicated at 8'.Likewise,shelves or fittings of any desired lengths may be applied,the upper limit for their length consisting of the full width of the back-door.

From the above disclosure it should be apparent that the invention affords the possibility of using shelves 8,8' or the like fittings depending on requirements, which shelves can be arranged at any desired position.

Moreover, since conventional shoulders are completely lacking, it will be possible to use shelves having, either individually or in combination, a length corresponding to the full length of the door back or to a shorter length, if desired.

Claims (6)

1. A door back for a refrigerator and/or freezer, comprising a plurality of parallel guides, each guide being adapted for receiving and supporting in a cantilever fashion a shelf or like member to be selectively arranged on and along said guide.

2. A door back according to claim 1, wherein each guide is provided with a top groove and a bottom groove adapted for engaging with slide members formed on said shelf members.

3. A door back according to either of the preceding claims, wherein each guide extends over the full width of said door back.

4. A door back according to claim 3, wherein said shelf or like member has a length less than the full extent of a said guide.

5. A door back according to any one of the preceding claims, when formed integrally with a freezer or refrigerator door.

6. A door back for a refrigerator and/or freezer, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
