Abstract

A protective mat for spreading across the lap of a person changing an infants diaper comprises sheet 10 which is impervious to moisture and has an absorbent pad 11. Resealable adhesive strips 13 are secured to one of the shorter edges of the mat so that the mat may be rolled and secured to enfold a used diaper. In use the mat is supplied in a rolled or folded condition and encloses a replacement diaper and wipes. <IMAGE>

Description

Disposable protective mat for use when changing an infant's diaper This invention relates to a protective mat for spreading across the lap of a person changing an infant's diaper, the mat preferably being adapted to contain a replacement diaper and completely to enfold a used diaper for disposal.
According to the invention a mat for use when changing an infant's diaper comprises a sheet of a material which is impervious to moisture, a pad of absorbent material secured to one side of said sheet over at least part of the area thereof, and re-usable fastening means for securing two opposite edges of the sheet together.
An example of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
As shown a sheet 10 of a material, for example polythene,
which is impervious to moisture, is approximately 30cm x 50cm and has an absorbent pad 11 which may comprise wadding of the type commonly used in infant's diapers, secured thereto and is positioned adjacent one shorter edge 12 of the sheet 10.
Adhesive strips 13 are secured to one of these shorter edges so that the sheet 10 and its contents may be rolled up with the pad 11 inwards and secured in that condition. Longer edges 14 of the sheet 10 may be folded inwards to keep the contents of the sheet in place when so rolled. Perforations 15 in the sheet 10 may be provided to form a handle for carrying in the rolled condition.
In use the mat is supplied in a folded or rolled condition and encloses a replacement diaper and wipes. Each of the long edges 14 may be closed to itself after folding so as to retain the diaper and wipes and to maintain them in a clean condition. After the infant's diaper has been changed the used diaper and wipes are placed on the pad 11 and covered by the folded in edges 14. The mat is then rolled up from the edge 12 and secured with the strips 13 for disposal.
In alternative version the diaper would form a continuous length with the mat, being perforated along the edge 12 to enable removal.

Claims (4)

Claims
1. A protective lap mat comprising a sheet of material which is impervious to moisture, a pad of absorbent material secured to one side of said sheet covering at least part of the area thereof and reusable fastening means for securing the opposite edges of the sheet together.
2. A protective lap mat as claimed in claim 1. which is supplied in a rolled of folded condition and which is adapted to contain a replacement diaper and wipes.
3. A protective lap mat as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2., which is adapted to enfold a used diaper for disposal.
4. A protective lap mat substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
