Abstract
A re-usable bag fastener is formed as a one-piece moulding constructed of materials able to remain flexible and fatigue resistant at low temperatures. The fastener has a moveable arm 13 that engages a ratchet device 11 and with the shank 10 forms a constriction which clamps the twisted neck of an opened bag. By pulling tab 12 and arm 13 apart enables fastener to be disengaged and then removed from bag. <IMAGE>
Description
R USABL13 BAG FASTENER
This invention relates to a re-usable bag fastener.
Bag fasteners are well known devices usually found in domestic or agricultural use to secure opened bags, i.e. frozen foods. These are generally plastic tabs or wire twist types that clip or wrap around the twisted neck of an opened bag to prevent spillage.
Plastic tab or wire fasteners are generally not considered re-usable.
Moreover, they can provide limited security and, if re-used, can have a short lifespan.
According to the present invention there is provided a re-usable bag fastener comprising a one piece moulding of a fatigue resistant flexible material, provided with means for clamping bags of varying sizes, an integral catchment means for releasably securing the fastener on the bag.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1. shows in perspective the fastener in an open position.
Figure 2. illustrates the method of use.
Figure 3. shows fastener in fully closed position.
D
Referring to the drawing the fastener example shown comprises a shank 10 and, at one end, formed at an angle to the shank a ratchet 11 and a releasing tab 12. At other end of shank an arm 13 is formed back to engage ratchet with arm tip 14.
In order to use the fastener, the top of an opened bag would be twisted to form a tight neck whereas the fastener would slip around neck as shown in Figure 2., via opening 15. The arm 13 and shank 10 are squeezed as so to engage arm tip with ratchet teeth 11 with arm blade 16 forming a constriction with shank 10. Figure 3. illustrates fastener in closed position.
In order to release fastener, tab 12 is pulled while arm 13 is held to disengage arm tip 14 from ratchet teeth 11. The fastener can then be withdrawn from neck of bag via opening 15.
Claims (7)
1 A re-usable bag fastener comprising a one piece moulding of a fatigue resistant flexible material, provided with means for clamping bags of varying sizes, an integral catchment means for releasably securing the fastener on the bag.
2 A re-usable bag fastener as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the integral catchment means at one end of shank is co-operable with an arm at the other end of shank to enable engagement of fastener.
3 A re-usable bag fastener as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the catchment means is provided with at least one tooth and an engagement device.
4 A re-usable bag fastener as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein means is provided to arrest the accidental disengagement of the catchment device.
5 A re-usable bag fastener as claimed in Claim 4 wherein means is provided by an integral blade or similar means to arrest the sliding movement of the fastener on the bag.
6 A re-usable bag fastener as claimed in any preceding claim whereby means is provided to remove any impediment that restricts flexible movement within the fastener.
7 A re-usable bag fastener substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1. - 3. of the accompanying drawing.
