Abstract
A Pond Breather comprises a cylindrical chamber 5 surrounding a ventilation shaft 2. The outer chamber contains insulation 4 and inlet holes 6 which allow water to enter chamber 5. A removable, insulated top 3 may be fitted into the ventilation shaft thus providing additional insulation. When the Pond Breather is in use in a pond it may be secured in a convenient position by inserting string through the tie positions 7. <IMAGE>
Description
POND BBEATHER This invention relates to a Pond Breather.
During frosty weather garden ponds freeze over thus preventing the flow of air.to the water. This i8 harmful to gold fish and other pond animals.
A hole must be made in the ice to allow air to the water. The ice cannot be smashed as this harms the fish. An alternative ds to pour boiling water onto the ice but this is an often lengthy and unsuccesful method.
This invention insulates a small amount of water thus preventing the total surface area of the pond from freezing.
It may be placed in a garden pond and left in position during the winter months.
Ref erring to the drawings, the Pond Breather comprises one cylindrical chamber and a removeable top. The chamber contains insulation material which surrounds the ventilation shaft.
Fig. 1 shows atop view of the Pond Breather with the lid in position. The ventilation shaft in the lid -1 is surrounded by an insulation mpuld. This lid reduces the size of the main ventilation shaft -2.
The top is recessed -3 to allow the lid to fit flush with the top of the Pond Breather.
Fig. 2 shows a cross-section of the Pond Breather.
Inlet holes -6 allow water to enter bottom of chamber -5 to act as anchorage for the Pond Breather.
Sections -4 are insulation moulds which surround the main ventilation shaft -2. Tie positions -7-allow string to be attached to secure the Pond Breather in a convenient position when installed in a pond.
Fig. 3 shows a removeable top which fits into the ventilation shaft -2. This provides further insulation to the main ventilation shaft -2. This top-may be removed to allow access to the water and if freezing did occur (ie in severe frosty conditions) to allow the ice to be removed.
Fig. 4 shows the insulation mould which fits into the cylindrical chamber thus surrounding the ventilation shaft -2.
Claims (7)
1. A Pond Breather comprises of a cylindrical chamber which has an open shaft at the centre. This centre shaft may be fitted with an insulated lid. Surrounding the shaft is insulation which extends over the sides. There are two holes on side of outer chamber. There are two eye-lets on opposite sides.
2. A Pond Breather as claimed in Claim 1 has insulation surround the centre shaft.
3. A Pond Breather as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 where space between the insulation and outer cylindrical drum is hollow.
2t
4. A Pond Breather as claimed in previous claims where a shaft in the centre allows air to enter the water.
5. A Pond Breather as claimed in previous claims has in-let holes to allow water to enter around the insulation in chamber thus providing anchorage.
6. A Pond Breather as claimed in previous claims has a removeable insulated lid which fits over the centre shaft.
7. A Pond Breather as claimed in previous claims has two eyelets to allow it to be secured with string in a convenient position.
