Abstract

A board game comprises a board which is an n-by-n chequered square wherein n>/=10, and playing pieces which are the thirty-two men of a conventional chess set. Preferably, the board is a ten-by-ten square.

Description

BOARD GAME This invention concerns a board game.
It comprises a board and a set of playing pieces.
The board is an n by n chequered square where nBl0 and the playing pieces are those thirty two men of a conventional chess set.
The game maybe played in accordance with the ordinary rules of chess subject to arrangement of the pieces on the board for the start of play with the opposing armies opposite or laterally offset from one another. Depending upon the starting configuration selected the rearmost row of pieces may or may not be on the rearmost row of the board having regard to the fact that the 'Queens' must stand on their own colour.
In possible modifications the 'Kings' may be allowed to move two squares on any turn except to escape from check" or when such move would include a threatened square, pawns may be Queened after advancing through six rows rather than reaching the opposite back row, and the 'en-passant' rules may not apply in all circumstances when the opposing armies start from laterally offset positions.
