Abstract
A hand operated opener which can be fixed to any upright fixture comprises a conical interior 13 provided with means which will grip the top of any screw top jar or container that will enter there into. The gripping means comprise a roller-mounted blade and a frictional material lining within the cone. The gripping means hold the top whilst the body of the jar or container is turned in a clockwise direction, thus releasing the top from the jar or container. <IMAGE>
Description
Screw Top Jar or Container Opener.
This invention relates to an opener for aiding the release of screw top caps on jars or containers.
Vacuum sealed jars or containers, or ordinary sealed jars or containers with screw top lids are difficult to open by hand, particulary by the old or arthritic.
Tools on the market require one hand to hold the tool and the other hand to hold the container.
According to the present invention, this tool is fixed to a permanant or firm fixture leaving both hands to grip the container.
Specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows the tool in perspective.
Figure 2 shows the tool in two elevations, with a cross-section through A-A.
Figure 3 shows mounting bracket.
Refering to the drawing, the tool consists of main body 10, Fig. 2, inner cone 10, Fig. 2, blade and mechanism 14 & 15 Fig. 2, and mounting bracket II Fig. 3.
The neck of the container is entered into the conical aperture 13 Plug. 1 as far as it will go. The body of the jar or container then can be gripped by both hands and turned in a clockwise direction,
The roller mounted blade 14 Fig. 2 will rotate by action of the jar or container turning against it. The blade will then hold the top or cap stationary, enabling the user to use both hands to continue rotating the main body of the jar or container.
The inside surface of the cone 12 Fig. 2 is lined with a friction material to give further resistance to the top of the jar or container from turning.
Then the seal is broken that holds the top of the jar or container, the jar or container is removed by withdrawing with a downward motion.
Any movement of the blade will be recovered and moved back to a stop by aid of spring 15 Fig. 2.
This will move the blade in such a position as to make it ready for the next application.
Claims (7)
1. A hand operated opener for removing screw tops from any jar or container whose neck will enter the conical base of the tool.
2. A hand operated opener as claimed in claim 1 that assists people with impaired grip a way of holding the body of the jar or container with both hands whilst removing a screw type top.
3. A hand operated opener as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 to assist people with one hand to remove a screw type top from a jar or container.
4. A hand operated opener as claimed in claim 1 with the facility to fix to any ridged upright surface via a sliding mounting plate.
5. A hand operated opener as claimed in claim 4 that can be easily removed from its mounting plate for ease of cleanlng.
6. A hand operated opener substanlially described herein with reference to Fig. 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
7. A hand operated opener as claimed in claims 1-6 that uses a moving blade to grip the jar or container top to prevent it from rotating.
