Description

CHILD'S SEAT FOR PUSHCHAIR AND CAR This invention relates to a seat which combines a child's car seat and a child's pushchair/buggy into one device.
It is common for most car owning families to have to purchase a child's pushchair/buggy in addition to a child's car seat.
According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a seat for a child which is adapted to fit on the chassis of a child's pushchair or buggy and also is suitable for being secured on a car seat.
According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a seat according to the first aspect of the invention in combination with a chassis of a pushchair or buggy onto which the seat can be fitted.
Preferably, the seat is provided with securing straps to enable it to be secured in a car.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawing, in which the three Figures are respective diagrammatic views of a combined seat and pushchair according to the invention.
Figure 1 shows a seat 1 for holding a child, the seat 1 including straps 2 to restrain the child from falling out of the seat once placed in it. A chassis 3 of a pushchair or buggy has flanges 4 to accept corresponding lugs 5 on the seat 1. In fact, quick-release connectors will be provided on the chassis 3 to cooperate with means on the seat 1 to provide a releasable connection between the seat 1 and the chassis 3. Although not shown, the front wheels of the chassis 3 are provided with steerage whilst the rear wheels are provided with parking brakes. The whole chassis is collapsible for stowage.
Figure 3 schematically illustrates a pair of straps 6 to be provided in the car, one end of each strap 6 being bolted to the vehicle chassis and the other end of the strap will be fitted with a quick release connector which will be compatible with the connector means on the child's seat 1.
The seat 1 can therefore be secured in a vehicle and the chassis detached, collapsed and stowed in the vehicle boot. When needed, however, the child's seat 1 can be removed from the car and secured on the chassis 3 so that the child can be pushed around on the pavements. To enable the seat 1 to be manoeuvred more easily on a car seat, for example, the outside base corner 7 of the seat is provided with one or more wheels or rollers (not visible) which is/are integrated in the body of the seat 1.
It will be appreciated that the single seat can hold a child in a car whilst also being able to hold a child in a pushchair/buggy and time is thereby saved by not having to unstrap a wriggling infant out of a conventional pushchair, lift him into the car and fasten car seat safety straps. With the present invention, with the child securely fastened in the seat, the seat is unfastened from the chassis 3 and the child and seat are lifted into the car together and the seat is fastened to the already secured straps 6 in the car.
