Abstract

An oven gas burner 1 is described which consists of a lower part 5 and an upper part 7, the lower part 5 being formed integrally with the floor section 2 of the shell of an oven. The two parts define between them a burner section 8 and a gaseous fuel supply passageway 9. Air is entrained by a gas injector 14 and is mixed with the gas in the region 13 downstream of a venturi 12. <IMAGE>

Description

1 GB2197452A 1
SPECIFICATION
Gas burners This invention relates to gas burners and more particularly to oven gas burners especially for domestic cooking ovens.
Up to the present time domestic cooking ovens usually incorporate a gas burner which is disposed below a slot in the bottom section of the oven.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved form of oven gas burner.
According to the present invention there is provided an oven gas burner which is formed in two parts, one of the parts being formed integrally with the shell of the oven, said two parts having formed between them a burner section and a gaseous fuel supply passageway leading to said burner section.
In a preferred arrangement for carrying out the invention the said one of the parts is formed integrally with the floor section of the shell of an oven, the said floor section prefer- ably being formed as a lower part of the oven gas burner, an upper part of the oven gas burner being provided which is attached to said lower part.
In carrying out the invention according to the preferred arrangement, said upper and lower parts of the oven gas burner will each have outwardly formed depressions therein forming said burner section and said passageway, the burner section of said upper part having a plurality of burner apertures therein and said passageway being formed with an entrance port, a venturi-shaped portion and a portion for mixing gaseous fuel and entrained air.
Advantageously, said burner section and 105 said passageway will be disposed in side-by side relationship, and may be provided with air inlet apertures around them.
In one arrangement the air inlet apertures may take the form of a plurality of rectangular slots in said floor section, and it may be ar ranged that the upper part of the oven gas burner be provided with downwardly depend ing tags which co-operate with selected ones of said slots and by means of which said upper part may be crimped to said floor section.
It may also be arranged that the sizing and disposition of said slots be selected so that they constitute a block to microwave radiation whereby said oven gas burner may be used in a microwave oven.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention will now be described reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1, is a perspective view of a an oven gas burner in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2, is an enlarged fragmentary view of the oven gas burner of Fig. 1; and 1 1 15 Figure 3, is a cross-sectional view on the lines A-A of Fig. 1.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings there is shown an oven gas burner 1 which is formed integrally with the floor section 2 of a domestic oven (not shown). The oven may take any conve nient form and may, for example, be of wrap around form in which the top, bottom, and two sides are formed from a single wrapped around pressing or it may be formed from seperate top, bottom and side sections as is described in our co-pending patent application No. (Ref. TINW181) filed 10th Novem ber 1986.
For the purposes of the present description only, the oven gas burner to be described will be considered to be an integral part of a separate floor (bottom) section of an oven.
As is best seen from Figs. 2 and 3, the floor section 2, near to the rear edge 3 thereof, if formed with a generally rectangular depression 4 in which is disposed the oven gas burner 1. The oven gas burner 1 is formed in two parts, a lower part 5, which is formed integrally with the bottom surface 6 of the depression 4 and a separate upper part which is attached to the lower part 5. The lower part 5 and the upper part 7 of the oven gas burner 1 are each provided with out- wardly formed depressions which co-operate to form a burner section 8 and a gaseous fuel supply passageway 9 which leads to the burner section 8, the burner section 8 and the passageway 9 being disposed in side-by-side relationship.
The burner section 8 of the upper part 7 is provided on its top surface with a plurality of burner apertures 10 and the gaseous fuel supply passageway 9 formed between the lower part 5 and the upper part 7 is provided with an entrance port 11, a venturi-shaped portion 12 and a mixing portion 13 for mixing gaseous fuel and entrained air which is input to the entrance port 11, the gaseous fuel being supplied from an injector 14 which extends through a hole 15 in the side- wall 16 of the depression 4.
Around the periphery of the upper part 7 and in the bottom surface 6 of the lower part 5 is provided a plurality of generally rectangular shaped air-inlet holes 17 by means of which air is admitted to the oven gas burner 1 from the underside of the floor section 2, and it is arranged that the upper part 7 is provided around its periphery with a number of downwardly depending tags which extend into selected ones of the slots 17 and which are then crimped over the edge of the slots 17 as shown at 19 in Fig. 3, to attach the upper part 7 of the burner 1 to the lower part 5. Obviously any alternative method of attaching the two parts together could be used.
It is becoming increasingly popular to provide a so-called 'dual' oven in which say, a microwave oven is provided with an additional 2 gas burner, and in such dual ovens it may be arranged that the sizing and disposition of the air inlet slots 17 are chosen so as to provide a block to microwave radiation.
Although in the embodiment described the lower part 5 of the oven gas burner 1 is shown as being an integral part of the floor section 2 of an oven, with the upper section 7 being separate therefrom, it will be appreci- ated that the upper part 7 could equally well be formed integrally with the floor section 2 and the lower part 5 may be provided as a separate part. It will also be appreciated that the burner section 8 and the supply passage- way 9 are provided in side-by-side relationship for convenience only and they may, for example, be formed in an in-line configuration.
Although in the embodiment described, the oven gas burner 1 is depicted as being an integral part of the floor section 2 of an oven, it should be appreciated that in some arrange ments it may be possible to integrate it with one or other of the side walls of the oven or with the rear wall of the oven.
The oven gas burner 1 described hereinbe fore is advantageous in that it comprises only two parts, one of which is constituted by and formed with the floor section of the oven and both parts of which are relatively simple pressings.
