Abstract

A bivouac tent comprises an envelope incorporating a bag 20 and a canopy 10 constructed from waterproof materials supported and secured when pitched by means of a system of poles and pegs, the canopy being provided with means 15 of adjusting the set when pitched and the bag adapted to be opened or closed at the head and provided with means for releasably securing it to the canopy. The method of securement includes provision for access to the interior of the canopy and therein to the interior of the bag by means of openable panels in the canopy attachable to the bag so as to form an aperture which faces the foot of the bag when secured in an open position. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Bivouac tent This invention relates to a bivouac tent.
A bivouac tent is a form of camping shelter designed to provide the occupant with protection from the weather and comprising an envelope incorporating a bag and a canopy constructed from waterproof materials supported and secured in position when pitched by means of a system of poles and pegs. It may be dismantled and folded for ease of transporting.
Bivouac tents are generally among the lightest and most compact forms of camping shelter available but they offer only limited accommodation and storage space. Moreover they do not permit the occupant to look out through the entrance when facing the foot of the shelter in a sitting position. Furthermore they do not allow for the bag which protects the occupant when in a recumbent position to be separated from the canopy which- protects the occupant while sitting up.
According to the present invention there is provided a canopy, means of adjusting when pitched the set of the canopy, a bag constructed of waterproof materials with one end deemed to be the foot and the opposite end deemed to be the head and adapted to be opened or closed and positioned inside the canopy when the bag and the canopy are used in conjunction, means of releasably securing the bag to the canopy with provision for access to the interior of the canopy and therein to the interior of the bag by means of openable panels in the canopy.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows in perspective the canopy erected with the bag attached and one panel of the canopy in a rolled open position.
Referring to the drawing the bivouac shelter comprises a canopy 10 and a bag 20 releasably secured to the canopy by devices 21 22 23 and 24 which may be for example hooks attached to tape loops or similar means.
On the canopy panel 11 is releasably attached to panels 12 13 and 14 by, for example open-ended zip fasteners, touch-andclose fasteners, press studs or similar means and panel 11 is permanently attached along its bottom edge to the bag 20 so that it may be detached from its adjacent canopy panels and secured in an open position on the bag 20 by means of restraining devices for example elastic lookps and toggles incorporated in the point of attachment of panel 11 to the bag 20. The point of attachment of panel 11 is adjacent to the mid-point between the head and the foot of the bag 20 so that the aperture formed by securing the panel 11 in an open position is facing the foot of the bag 20.
To detach the bag 20 from the canopy 10 the fastenings securing panel 11 to panels 12 13 and 14 are disconnected and the securing devices 21 22 23 and 24 are released. The bag may then be withdrawn from the canopy so that either the bag or the canopy may be used on its own.
To reassemble the bivouac tent the securing devices 21 22 23 and 24 are reconnected and the fasteners joining panel 11 to panels 12 13 and 14 fully or partially reconnected thereby proving complete enclosure of the canopy or partial opening allowing access to its interior and admission of light and air.
A further specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Referring to the drawing tapes 15 are attached at one end of each to points on the bottom edge of the canopy 10 adjacent to the ends of the supporting poles and linked to each other by an adjustment device which allows for their combined length to be altered, for example a buckle.
By altering the combined length of the tapes by means of the adjustment device the curvature and the relevant positions of the ends of the poles can be modified thereby altering the set of the canopy.
1. A bivouac tent or like structure has a canopy, means of adjusting when pitched the set of the canopy, a bag constructed of waterproof materials with one end deemed to be the foot, and the opposite end deemed to be the head and adapted to be opened or closed and positioned inside the canopy when the bag and canopy are used in conjunction, and means of releasably securing the bag to the canopy with provision for access to the interior of the canopy and therein to the interior of the bag by means of openable panels in the canopy.
2. A bivouac tent or like structure as claimed in Claim One, wherein means is provided by which to alter the length of the linkage means connecting the ends of the supporting poles thereby adjusting the set when pitched of the canopy.
3. A bivouac tent or like structure as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the means of access to the interior of the canopy and therein to the interior of the bag comprises a panel forming part of the canopy attached along its bottom edge to the bag in a position adjacent to the mid-point between the head and the foot of the bag so that the aperture formed by securing the said panel in an open position is facing the foot of the bag.
