Abstract

A fishing rod night light has a bulb holder 14 with LED bulb 16 that is permanently mounted in the tip section C of a three sectional fishing rod. The rod is adapted to hold a power source in the handle section to carry the power supply to the light 16. The power leads are attached to copper strips at the connections between the rod sections whereby the rod is readily assembled and disassembled, with adequate electrical connections. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Fishing rod night light This invention relates to a Fishing Rod Night Light.
Fishing rod night lights are used to detect a bite when fishing at night. An isotope is screwed into the tip of a rod and when the hook is taken it causes the light to vibrate, thus alerting the angler and enabling a strike to be made. Unfortunately, this method of night light is prone to fading, making it difficult to see.
According to the present invention, there is provided a permanent night light comprising an LED bulb mounted in the tip section of a three sectional fishing rod. The rod being adapted to hold a power source and switch in the handle section, power leads in the centre section and bulb holder with replaceable bulb in the tip section. Provision is also made for suitable electrical contacts to be embodied in the male and female connecting ferrules of each section allowing for quick and easy assembly and dismantling of the rod.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the rod with all three sections in position.
Figure 2 illustrates the handle section with battery compartment.
Figure 3 shows the male and female ferrules of the connecting section with method of contacts.
Figure 4 illustrates the LED light source and connections.
Referring to the drawings, the rod comprises a handle section A, a centre section B, and a tip section C, with a built in light source.
In order to provide power for the night light, the handle section Figure 2 is hollowed out to take an aluminium casing 1, in which two 1.5 volt batteries 2, are inserted. An on/off switch 3, is inserted above this casing with power leads 6, being connected. A removable plate 17, is secured to the bottom of the aliminium casing to facilitate removal of the batteries and the whole is covered by a rubber butt end 5, to add protection.
The sections of the rod are connected to each other by means of a male and female ferrule Figure 3. The power leads 6, are attached to a copper strip 8, inside the ferrule A/B to allow for separation and re-connection of the sections. The whole is encased in a rubber insulating sleeve 9.
The top section of the rod Figure 4, has at its tip, the top eye 12 and immediately below this is the light housing 13. A bulb holder 14, is inserted into the housing and held in position by a retaining cap 15, the power leads 6, being fed through the rod C and connected to the bulb holder. A 3 volt LED bulb 16, is then inserted in the holder. Activation of the light is by means of the slide switch 3, figure 2.
1. A fishing rod night light comprising a permanently located light source incorporated in a fishing rod modified to provide a handle section containing the battery compartment and switch, a centre section carrying power leads to a tip section in which is permanently housed a bulb holder with replaceable LED bulb.
2. A fishing rod night light substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings.
