Abstract

In order to combine high air delivery with an installed position advantages in respect of maintenance and installation, a blower 8 for a heating or air conditioning system in a motor vehicle is of free-suction construction and its connection flange 15, which is provided with a circulating air inlet 16 adapted to be closed by a flap, is fastened on a part 3 of the dashboard, on the side remote from the passenger compartment 2. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A blower for a heating or air conditioning system The invention relates to a blower for a heating or air conditioning system for a motor vehicle and which is installed by means of a connection flange on a part of the dashboard and in a space divided off from the vehicle engine by a partition, the connection flange being equipped with a circulating air inlet adapted to be closed by a flap.
A blower of this kind, which is accommodated in a casing effecting a diversion of the air and which, together with other components serving for heating of air conditioning, is inserted from the passenger compartment and fastened on the passenger compartment side of the dashboard, is known from DE-OS 34 01 040. With an arrangement of this kind relatively high air diversion and blower inlet losses occur, and because of its length the entire unit is difficult to insert from the passenger compartment.
The invention seeks to construct and arrange the blower in such a manner that for the same blower power a higher air delivery and a smaller component size are achieved.
At the same time a more favourable arrangement in respect of installation and maintenance of the blower should be obtained.
According to the present invention there is provided a blower for a heating or air conditioning system for a motor vehicle and which is adapted to be installed by means of a connection flange on a part of the vehicle dashboard and in a space divided off from the vehicle engine by a partition, the connection flange being equipped with a circulating air inlet adapted to be closed by a flap, wherein the blower is of free-suction construction and its connection flange is fastened to a part of the dashboard, on the side remote from the passenger compartment.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the drawing.
A single or double flow blower 8 of freesuction construction, that is to say one which has no peripheral covering, is accommodated in a space 1, which is bounded in relation to the passenger compartment 2 by a dashboard part 3 and in relation to the engine compartment 4 (not shown in detail) by a partition 5, and which at the top is covered over by an engine bonnet 6 except for an air inlet 7. The air entering through the air inlet 7 and indicated by arrows is first subjected to separation of water, the resulting water being received in a vessel 9 and discharged via an outlet 10.
The air is then diverted, flows through an exchangeable filter 11 and then, if the fresh air flap 12, which can be moved from the open position shown in solid lines to the closed position shown in chain-dotted lines, is open, passes into the compartment 1. The air then flows on the shortest route to the blower 8 almost without loss, and is thereupon passed to accessories (not shown), such as a heat exchanger, connected downstream on the passenger compartment side. A blower casing 13 serving solely to build up pressure is provided at the top with a detachably fastened casing portion 14, so that for example replacement of the motor is possible in a simple manner.
A connection flange 15 is formed on the blower casing 13 and is provided at the top with a circulating air inlet 16 adapted to be closed by a flap 17. The connection flange 15 is mounted on that side of the dashboard portion 3 which is remote from the passenger compartment 2, with the interposition of seals 18.
1. A blower for a heating or air conditioning system for a motor vehicle and which is adapted to be installed by means of a connection flange on a part of the vehicle dashboard and in a space divided off from the vehicle engine by a partition, the connection flange being equipped with a circulating air inlet adapted to be closed by a flap, wherein the blower is of free-suction construction and its connection flange is fastened to a part of the dashboard, on the side remote from the passenger compartment.
2. A blower for a heating or air conditioning system for a motor vehicle substantially as described herein with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
