Abstract

An elevator apparatus for use in playgrounds and recreational areas, whereby individuals may raise and lower themselves whilst standing on a raisable platform, has the platform 16 mounted on a tower structure 4,6,8,10 by means of lifting tackle 28,24. The platform and tower structure are interconnected by chain yoke 18, brackets 20 and guides passing through boles 22 so that the platform will remain level whilst it is being raised and lowered. The chain yoke 18 is connected to a block and tackle mechanism 24 attached to a top cross member 26, operation of the mechanism being by chain 28. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Amusement apparatus This invention relates to amusement apparatus which is for use principally in playgrounds and which also may be used for therapeutic and physiotherapeutic purposes.
According to the invention there is provided elevator apparatus comprising a tower structure, a lifting platform, lifting tackle connecting the platform to the tower structure whereby a person standing on the.platform can lift himself by means of the lifting tackle.
Preferably, the tower structure comprises a framework comprising spaced-apart upright members and a top cross-member, each of said uprights having a guide member thereon, the platform being suspended from said top cross-member and being movable vertically relative to said upright members and along said guides.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood, an embodiment thereof will now be described, by way of example, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, wherein:- Figure 1 is a perspective view of apparatus according to the invention; and Figure 2 is a diagrammatic sectional plan view of the apparatus of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the apparatus in the form of an elevator tower, indicated generally by reference numeral 2, comprises four spaced-apart upright members 4, 6, 8, and 10 which extend below ground level as shown in Fig. 1, and which are braced by bracing members 12. Attached to the four up right members are guides, two of which are indicated by reference numerals 14 and which extend below ground level, again as shown in Fig. 1.
A platform 16, suspended from a chain yoke 18 by means of arms or brackets 20, is arranged to be movable vertically relative to the upright members, the guides 14 passing through bushed holes 22 in the platform so that the platform 16 whilst moving vertically-upwards or downwards may be properly guided and maintained level.
The chain yoke 18 is connected to lifting tackle comprising a block and tackle mechanism 24 attached to a top cross-member 26 of the elevator tower, whereby a person standing or sitting on the platform can raise and lower himself by means of the block and tackle mechanism. Operation of the mechanism is by means of a chain 28 which passes through holes 30 in the platform 16.
The invention thus providers apparatus which is relatively simple and cheap to construct, and yet provides amusement to the user, as well as providing therapeutic assistance such as muscle building, control and coordination etc.
1. Elevator apparatus comprising a tower structure, a lifting platform, lifting tackle connecting the platform to the tower structure whereby a person standing on the platform can lift himself by means of a lifting tackle.
2. Elevator apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the tower structure comprises a framework comprising spaced apart upright members and a top cross member, each of said uprights having a guide member thereon, the platform being suspended from said top cross member and being movable vertically relative to said upright members and along said guides.
3. Elevator apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
