Abstract
The bearing housings 5 for receiving the roller shaft journals of a roller conveyor in the side frames thereof are provided with eccentric journal-receiving holes 12, 13 for enabling replacement of the rollers with rollers of a different diameter without the use of other housings or side frames, while still maintaining contact between the rollers and the driving belt, by inversion of the housing. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Mounting of conveyor rollers for roller conveyors
This invention relates to a roller conveyor, in particular a "ram-type" roller conveyor consisting of a conveyor track frame, in which are mounted conveyor rollers driven by a friction belt, the shafts of the rollers being carried in housings.
In known roller conveyors, the individual conveyor rollers are secured in the side frames of the conveyor track by means of housings acting as bearing components. The shaft journals of the rollers engage in central holes of the housings, which in their turn are slid into slots of the side frames and secured so that they cannot turn. A friction belt which can be pressed against the rollers from the underside of the roller track is used to drive the rollers. Consequently the distance between the shafts and the driving belt is fixed for a certain rollers diameter and if the side frames are to be fitted with rollers of different dimensions, it has been necessary hitherto to use other housings or if necessary even to use a conveyor with different side frames.
The object of the invention is to provide bearing and attachment components for the rollers of a conveyor of the type as hereinbefore described, by means of which it is possible to use rollers of different diameters for one and the same conveyor belt installation without having to change side frames or housings of other dimensions. The arrangement in accordance with the invention is characterised in that the housings are provided with eccentric holes for receiving the roller shaft journals.
The receiving holes for the roller shaft journals arranged eccentrically in the housing make it possible to use rollers with different diameters, for example of 30 mm and 50 mm. When changing one size of roller for another, all that is necessary is to change the receiving holes for the roller shaft journals for the new rollers and to place the rollers with the housings back into the receiving slots of the side frames. With different eccentricities of the two holes in relation to the centre point of rotation of the housing, there are in fact four different distances available between the shaft journals and the driving belt. This means that four different roller diameters can be used.
It is particularly advantageous to provide the edge area of the slots or grooves of a housing at least in part with wedge-shaped inclined surfaces or tapers so that the rollers can be mounted in the side frames in such a way that their shafts do not run exactly perpendicular to the direction of the conveyor track. In this way material which is being conveyed can be moved sideways from the middle of the conveyor track to a side frame. The receiving holes for the roller shaft journals can be provided with flats so as to prevent them from turning.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in diagrammatic form in the illustrations and explained below by way of example.
The illustrations show the following:
Figure 1 represents a side view of a part of a "ram-type" roller conveyor,
Figure 2 shows a cross section through the roller conveyor according to Fig. 1 with a conveyor roller arranged in housings,
Figure 3 shows the arrangement of the housing according to Fig. 2 with a conveyor roller of smaller diameter,
Figure 4 shows the front view of a housing,
Figure 5 shows a view on a narrow side of the housing in the area of the grooves,
Figure 6 shows a view of a narrow side of the housing but offset by 90 to the view according to Fig. 5,
Figure 7 shows an axial section through the housing,
Figure 8 shows a cross section and
Figure 9 shows a further axial section but offset by 90" to the section according to Fig.
7.
The basic components of the illustrated conveyor belt system are two side frames 1 which are arranged at a distance and parallel to each other and in which are arranged the receiving slots 2 for conveyor rollers 3. The conveyor rollers are slid with their shaft journals 4 into housings 5 and introduced with these into the receiving slots 2.
A friction belt 6 which pressed against the conveyor rollers 3 from below by means of pressure rollers 7 is arranged on the lower side of the rollers 3. The belt is driven by a driving pulley and reversed by reversing rollers 8, whilst the track-supporting rollers 9 prevent the belt from becoming slack.
The housings (Fig. 5 to Fig. 9) are designed so that they are rotationally symmetrical and provided with grooves 10 in which the slot edges 2 of the side frames engage when the housings are inserted. The grooves are provided with tapered surfaces 11 with an inclination of about 6" so as to enable the housings to take up an inclined position in the slots 2.
The housings are constructed with receiving holes 12 and 13 which receive the shaft journals of the conveyor rollers. They have an eccentric position in relation to the axis of rotation 14 of the housings 5 and in the case of the illustrated example the eccentricities vary, i.e. the distances of the axes of the holes to the axis of rotation 14 of the housings are not equal. The lower hole 13 in Fig.
8 is provided with flats 15 so as to prevent the shaft journal of the conveyor roller which has been taken up in it, from turning.
Figs. 2 and 3 show the use of conveyor rollers of different diameter whilst continuing to use the same housings.
Whilst a roller with a diameter of 50 mm is used in the case of the embodiment according to Fig. 2, in Fig. 3 a roller with a diameter of 30 mm is shown. With the embodiment according to Fig. 2, the shaft journals 4 engage in the upper hole. In Fig. 3 as a result of turning the housing 5 through 1800 this hole takes up a position below the axis of symmetry 14 and receives the journal 4a of the roller 3a.
Two further different positions of the shaft journals are however also possible as a result of the variable eccentricities of the holes.
The simple method of assembling the rollers which is shown clearly in the illustrations is also a particular advantage. All that has to be done is to slide the housings on the left and right hand sides onto the shaft journals of the rollers and then insert this in the slots.
