Abstract

Netting material is wound on the outer surface of permeable drum 1 and dried by air supplied to the inferior of the rotating drum. A wax impregnation operation, in which the netting is passed through an emulsion in the lower post of a surrounding chamber by rotating the drum, may precede drying. The netting material may be a fish net. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Process and device for rapid air-drying of netting material The present invention concerns a process for rapid drying of netting material, especially impregnated nets for fish cultivation, and a drum for performing such a process.
To prevent the growing of algae, clams and other organisms on nets in fish cultivating sites, the nets have to be impregnated. This may be done by the nets being treated with a wax emulsion, for instance such an emulsion as is developed by Mobil Oil and sold under the trademark "Netrex". The drying of nets which are impregnated with such wax emulsions must be performed under controlled conditions at temperatures between 5"C and 40or. This drying is today performed by the nets being spread over piers to dry or are hung in net attics. This process is time consuming, dependent on the outdoor temperature, and the result is highly variable in quality.
By drying nets or netting material, possibly impregnated nettings, on a drum according to the present invention under controlled flow of temperature- and dampness- regulated air, it is achieved a controlled drying of the netting material with a reduced drying time and under simplified working conditions.
Such advantageous features are achieved by the netting material, such as a net, is spread on the outer surface of a drum where there is blown temperature- and dampness-regulated air (dried air) into the center of the drum. It is a condition that the drum is placed in a sealed room where the quantity of supplied fresh air may be directed according to the relative dampness of the room.
A drum which may be used in the process according to the present invention is shown in the attached figure, where the drum 1 rests on a bearing stand 2. The drum may be built of pipes with a square cross section and tight plates in the ends.
The regulated air is supplied in the center of the ends 3 and is spread through spreading plates 7. The drum 1 may be rotated, for instance by help of a chain 5 and a motor 4.
The air treatment aggregate 8 filters, dries and possibly heats the process air which is supplied the drum through pipe system 9. Damp air may in a similar way be lead from the drum through a corresponding pipe system 9 and removed via a removal duct 10. The body of the drum 1 may be made of units 6, which possibly may be permeable to air or consist of ribs or other convenient material.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention encompasses rotating the drum 1 with a speed within the interval 0,0 - 5 rotations per minute with a relative dampness of the supplied air of O - 40%. By such an embodiment the drying process may be stopped when the exit air reaches a relative dampness of approximately 30%. As an example the supply quantity and speed of the controlled air may be in the interval of approximately 2000 m3 air per hour when drying approximately 400 m2 netting material.
The process and device according to the present invention may also be used when impregnating the netting material with subsequent drying. The impregnation may be performed by the drum with the wound material, is submerged partially in the impregnating liquid during rotating of the drum 1 to spread the impregnating liquid in the netting material.
The impregnating liquid may be contained in a tub under the drum 1 wherein the drum may be partially submerged. Such an embodiment may preferably be used by impregnating the netting material with wax formulation such as a wax emulsion.

2. A process according to claim 1, wherein the drum is supplied with air hazing a temperature in the range of from 5 to 40"C.
3. A process according to ciaim 1 or 2, wherein the air in the sealed space is exitted under controlled conditions by rotation of the drum with a velocity of from 0,5 to 5 revs./min.

5. Use of the process according to claims 1 to 3 for drying impregnated netting material.
6. A process for air drying netting material, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
7. A device for drying netting material substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawing.
