Abstract

A high speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism has a ring bridge 10 that will allow the modified lampshade 12 to pass over it, rotate, and come down into register for attachment and the reverse sequence for release, both sequences with the bulb in place. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION High speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism This invention relates to a high speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism.
To take a lampshade down the bulb has to be removed and this will expose the live pins.
If the light has been on for some time the bulb will be hot. At night the light will go out as the bulb is removed or when the light is switched off prior to bulb removal. The retaining ring takes time to remove and something like a chair is often used to stand on to get closer to the lampshade. Often both arms are used whilst standing on a chair or the like.
According to the present invention there is provided a high speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism comprising a wire ring bridge that fits onto a standard electricity bayonet socket fitting and a modified lampshade.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in whch :- Figure 1 shows in perspective the wire ring bridge fitted to the electricity bayonet socket and the lampshade ready to be put in place.
Figure 2 shows in plan the lampshade top ring passing up over the bridge and half way between Figs. 1 and' 3.
Figure 3 shows in perspective the lampshade in place on the bridge.
Referring to the drawing the high speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism comprises a wire ring bridge 10 and a modified lampshade 12. Material covering the lampshade is not shown. The wire ring bridge 10 is made of wire in this example and the centre of it forms part of a ring. It also bridges the top of the lampshade and is stepped down in the centre to position the bulb height relative to the lampshade. At the ends the ring bridge is bent up to form loops that are registers. The lampshade 12 has been modified by the permanent fixture of two straight wire rods taking up cordal positions diametricaily opposite to one another to form segmental receptacles.
In order to attach the lampshade 12 to the wire ring bridge 10, the lampshade has to be lifted up over the bulb and wire ring bridge, rotated through ninety degrees in either horizontal direction and lowered so that the segments each side of the lampshade co-operate with the registers at each end- of the wire ring bridge. The lampshade is now fitted.
To release the lampshade from the wire ring bridge the steps decnbed'above are carried out in the reverse sequence.
1. A high speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism comprising a ring bridge, a modified lampshade, means for releasably securing the ring bridge to a standard electrically bayonet socket, the lampshade adapted to slide on and off the ring bridge from above and after turning horizontally through ninety degrees in either direction pass up or down over the ring bridge and light bulb.
2. A high speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism as claimed in Claim 1 wherein diametrically opposed cordal member means are provided on the lampshade to form segmental receptacles.
3. A high speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein loop means are provided on the ring bridge to form registers.
4. A high speed lampshade attachment and release mechanism as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3, wherein the segmental receptacle means co-operate with the register means to locate the lampshade.
