Description
SPECIFICATION
Liquid applicator
Background of the Invention
Field of the Invention:
The present invention relates to a liquid applicator, and more particularly to a pen-type, or a writing brush-type or a painting brush-type, one in which an application liquid is forcibly fed to an application portion such as a brush tip and the like at any time by moving an application-liquid reservoir portion forth and back through a push-out operation of the applicator.
Description of the Prior Art:
Hitherto, a conventional liquid applicator of this type has, for example as shown in Fig. 1, a construction in which a separate push-out rod "A" constituting a separable member is mounted on a rear end of a main-body shaft portion of the liquid applicator in an insertion manner, which push-out rod "A" is subjected to a push-out and its release operations to move the application-liquid reservoir portion B forth and back so that the application liquid is forcibly fed to the application portion.
However, such a conventional liquid applicator suffers from problems that the push-out rod "A", being a separate member, adds to cost, and that such push-out rod "A" is apt to be lost due to its separate construction, and that a space for receiving the push-out rod "A" must be provided inside the liquid applicator to cause the capacity of the application-liquid reservoir to be reduced.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a liquid applicator in which an application liquid is forcibly fed from an applicationliquid reservoir portion to an application portion by moving the reservoir portion forth and back through a push-out operation of the applicator in which a closed rear end of the application-liquid reservoir portion is projected outward from a main body of the liquid applicator to form a push-out portion for moving the application-liquid reservoir forth and back.
It is preferabie that the closed rear end of the application-liquid reservoir projecting outward is thinner in diameter than a main body of the application-liquid reservoir portion to form a shoulder portion therebetween, which shoulder portion abuts on a dropout-prevention member mounted on a rear end of a main-body shaft portion of the liquid applicator.
The application liquid received in the application-liquid reservoir can be effectively agitated by the use of an agitating ball a diameter of which allows itself to enter the reservoir and its closed rear end.
The application-liquid reservoir portion of the applicator may be a detachable cartridge member.
Although, typically, the liquid applicator of the present invention takes a substantially circular cylinder-like shape, it is also possible to take other shapes such as a prism-like shape, an elliptic cylinder-like shape and the like.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a longitudinal central sectional view of an example of a conventional liquid applicator; and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal central sectional view of a liquid applicator of the present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODI
MENT
The present invention will be hereinbelow described with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawings. However, it is clear that the present invention is not limited to this embodiment.
In Fig. 2, there is shown an embodiment of the present invention, which is shaped into a pen-type writing brush according to the present invention.
In such pen-type writing brush of the present invention, an application-liquid reservoir portion or ink reservoir is constructed of a detachable-type cartridge, and the reference numeral 1 denotes such cartridge-type ink reservoir.
The ink reservoir 1 makes its closed rear portion 2 thinner than its main-body portion 3.
Such small-diameter rear portion 2 of the ink reservoir 1 is projected outward from a mainbody shaft portion 6 of the pen-type writing brush. The thus projected small-diameter rear portion 2 of the reservoir 1 is subjected to a push-out operation of the applicator by the use of fingers of a user, to make the ink at any time be forcibly fed to an application portion, i.e., a brush tip of the applicator.
Both a sealing means and a valve stem means are provided in a front end portion of the cartridge-type ink reservoir 1 of the applicator.
In use, the cartridge-type ink reservoir 1 is mounted in the main-body shaft portion 6 of the pen-type writing brush of the present invention, and after that a reinforcing ring member 4 is firmly mounted on a rear end portion of the main-body shaft portion 6 of the applicator. A large-diameter portion, i.e., the mainbody portion 3 of the cartridge-type ink reservoir 1 is larger in diameter than the reinforcing ring member 4 at its inner diameter, so that the reinforcing ring member 4 having mounted on the rear end of the main-body shaft portion 6 of the applicator abuts on the shoulder portion 5 formed between the main-body portion 3 and the small-diameter rear portion 2 of the cartridge-type ink reservoir 1, whereby the ink reservoir 1 is prevented from dropping out of the main-body shaft portion 6 of the applicator to be retained therein.
The cartridge-type ink reservoir 1 is always urged rearward relative to the main-body shaft portion 6 of the applicator by means of a coil spring 14 of a valve unit which is incorporated in the ink reservoir 1 which is moved forth under the push-out operation of its rear end portion 2 by means of the user's fingers while moved back upon release of such push-out operation. Through such push-out and its release operations of the cartridge-type ink reservoir 1, the ink is forcibly fed to the application portion of the applicator.
More particularly, in the embodiment of the pen-type writing brush of the present invention, an ink-intake conduit 7 which is tubular and acts also as a piston rod is provided in the main-body shaft portion 6 of the applicator so as to extend from a front end portion of the main-body shaft portion 6 toward the inside of the same 6. In the vicinity of a rear end of the ink-intake conduit 7 is provided an ink-communication hole 8. In the rear end portion of the ink-intake conduit 7 is provided a projection 10 which is received in a front end portion of a valve stem 9 of the valve means incorporated in the ink reservoir 1 of the applicator.
In a front end portion of the main-body shaft portion 6 of the applicator is mounted a brush tip to which the ink is fed from the inkintake conduit 7, which brush tip is conventional in construction so that its detailed description is omitted.
A valve unit provided in a rear end portion of the ink-intake conduit 7 is constructed of: a valve casing/cylinder 13 provided with an inkcommunication hole 11 and a valve-stem guiding hole 12: a valve body/piston/stem 9 which is incorporated in the valve casing/cylinder 13 and always urged forward by the coil spring 14; and a tubular element 17 which is inserted into a front end portion of the valve casing/cylinder 13 and fixed thereto to form a shoulder portion or a valve scat 16.
In a front end of the valve unit is provided a flange 18 which extends radially outward and abuts on a front end of the main-body portion 3 of the cartridge-type ink reservoir 1 to prevent the valve unit from dropping in the ink reservoir 1. Such flange 18 of the valve unit is clamped between a lid element 19 and the front end of the main-body portion 3 of the ink reservoir 1 when the lid element 19 is threadably connected to the front end of the main-body portion 3 of the ink reservoir 1, so that the valve unit is fixed to the main-body portion 3 of the ink reservoir 1. Clamped between the flange 18 of the valve unit and the lid element 19 is a ring-like packing 20 which cooperates with an outer wall of the ink-intake conduit 6 to prevent the ink from leaking therebetween.
Inside the ink reservoir 1 is received an agitating ball 21 a diameter of which is smaller that an inner diameter of the rear small-diameter portion 2 of the ink reservoir 1. Since the ball 21 is smaller in diameter than the rear small-diameter portion 2 at its inner diameter, the ball 21 can travel around the ink reservoir 1 freely to enhance its agitating effect of the ink conveniently.
With the use of the above construction, the present invention enables the liquid applicator to eliminate the push-out rod which is a separate member to lead to an increase of the capacity of the ink reservoir 1 of the applicator. In addition, since the agitating ball 21 can enter the small-diameter portion 2 of the ink reservoir 1, its agitating effect of the ink is conveniently enhanced.
