Abstract

A vehicle seat belt (1) has high visibility material (2) attached thereto so that it can be easily seen from outside the vehicle. The material may be reflective or luminous and attached by stitching or chemical bonding. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION High visibility vehicle seat belt This invention relates to a high visibility vehicle seat belt.
Vehicle seat belts are well known safety devices which comprise webbing straps mounted to the vehicle frame with a fastening device enabling these straps to be secured around the passenger.
Vehicle seat belts are however difficult to see from outside the vehicle, making it difficult for police to check if motorists are conforming to the seat belt laws.
According to the present invention there is provided a high visibility vehicle seat belt comprising a seat belt, high visibility material with means for attachment to the seat belt.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the seat belt with the high visibility material attached.
Figure 2 shows a means of attachment to the seat belt of the high visibility material in plan view.
Figure 3 shows the high visibility material attached to the seat belt in side view.
Figure 4 shows the seat belt with the high visibility material attached.
Referring to the drawing the high visibility seat belt comprises a seat belt 1 and high visibility material 2 attached to the seat belt by stitching 3 or chemical bonding.
The high visibility material may be attached in one piece as in Fig. 1 or in a series of shorter pieces as in Fig. 4.
The high visibility material may be either reflective or luminous.

2. A high visibility vehicle seat belt as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the high visibility material is attached as one piece.
3. A high visibility vehicle seat belt as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the high visibility material is attached as several smaller pieces.
4. A high visibility vehicle seat belt as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the high visibility material is reflective.
5. A high visibility vehicle seat belt as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the high visibility material is luminous.
6. A high visibility vehicle seat belt substantially as described herein with reference to Figs. 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.

Vehicle seat belts are well known safety devices which comprise webbing straps mounted to the vehicle frame with a fastening device enabling these straps to be secured around the passenger. Vehicle seat belts are however difficult to see from outside the vehicle, making it difficult for police to check if motorists are conforming to the seat belt laws. According to the present invention there is provided a high visibility vehicle seat belt comprising a seat belt, high visibility material with means for attachment to the seat belt. A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the seat belt with the high visibility material attached. Figure 2 shows a means of attachment to the seat belt of the high visibility material in plan view. Figure 3 shows the high visibility material attached to the seat belt in side view. Figure 4 shows the seat belt with the high visibility material attached. Referring to the drawing the high visibility seat belt comprises a seat belt 1 and high visibility material 2 attached to the seat belt by stitching 3 or chemical bonding. The high visibility material may be attached in one piece as in Fig. 1 or in a series of shorter pieces as in Fig. 4. The high visibility material may be either reflective or luminous. CLAIMS
1. A high visibility vehicle seat belt comprising a seat belt, high visibility material with means for attachment to the seat belt.

5. A high visibility vehicle seat belt as claimed in Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the high visibility material is luminous.
6. A high visibility vehicle seat belt substantially as described herein with reference to Figs. 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
