Description

SPECIFICATION Cake decoration This invention relates to a cake decoration.
Conventionally, cakes are decorated with the use of decorative icing and the attachment of embellishments such as ribbons, candles, accessories and the like. Whilst such decorations can considerably enhance the appearance of a cake there are nevertheless limitations imposed by the shape and configuration of the average cake.
According to the present invention there is provided a cake decoration comprising a representation of a novelty figure having means for receiving a cake such that the cake forms an integral part of the figure.
Preferably the decoration comprises a sheet of card having the novelty figure representation printed thereon.
Preferably also, a section of the figure is removable to provide an aperture for receiving the cake.
Most preferably, the removable section is part of the main body of the novelty figure.
Preferably also, the removable section forms a decoration for attachment to the cake.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a plan view of a first embodiment of a cake decoration in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2 is a plan view of a second embodiment of a cake decoration in accordance with the present invention; and Figure 3 is a plan view of a third embodiment of a cake decoration in accordance with the present invention.
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings, a cake decoration comprises a coloured representation of a teddy bear 1 printed on a sheet of card and partly cut around its outline so that the bear shape may be separated from the card. A central circular area 2 of the bear 1 has four press out sections 3 and four support tags 4.
In use the bear 1 is separated from the card and the press out sections 3 removed. An appropriately sized cake (not illustrated) is then placed in the central area 2 to form the main body of the bear 1. The support tags 4 serve to retain the bear 1 in position on the cake. Each of the press out sections 3 has a greeting printed on it, in this case a sequence of ages from one to four. The appropriate section 3 can then be attached to the cake.
The overall result is thus a birthday cake decorated in a fashion which is likely to be very appealing to young children. The overall effect can be further enhanced by decorating the cake itself in such a way as to complement the design of the bear.
Figs. 2 and 3 illustrate two alternative embodiments of cake decorations. Fig. 2 illustrates a cake decoration in the form of a figure of a clown together with a birthday greeting and Fig. 3 illustrates a cake decoration in the form of an Easter chicken with a happy Easter greeting.
Many other forms of novelty figure may be produced, either suitable for young children, as in the examples illustrated, or for other purposes. Examples may also be produced suitable for alternative shapes of cakes.
Modifications and improvements may be incorporated without departing from the scope of the invention.
1. A cake decoration comprising a representation of a novelty figure having means for receiving a cake such that the cake forms an integral part of the figure.
