Abstract

The bending load in an axle is less when the load rests on both sides of the wheel. This invention takes advantage of that fact and enables a lighter axle to be used. The axle comprises a continuous length of pipe, tube or rod which passes through the wheel(s), its free ends being used to form part of the suspension or to attach directly to the vehicle body or frame. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION An axle for light vehicles This invention relates to an axle for light vehicles. It is an efficient way of mounting wheels which do not need to be removed urgently.
The axle is part of a tube or pipe or rod, the remainder of which is formed into the suspension orthat part which transfers load to the suspension.
Specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows in perspective a wheelbarrow with thewheel mounted on the axle ofthis invention.
Figure2showsthe rearviewofa trailer on an axle now invented. A spring on each side supports the container of the trailer on the bent up part of the axle.
1. This invention could reducethe cost orweight or increase the strength of some vehicles if incorporated intheirdesign.
The bending load on the axle is less than where a wheel is free on one side.
The torque property of the axle can strengthen the vehicle.
Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have thefollowing effect: (b) Newortextuallyamended claims have been filed as follows: CLAIMS 1. Awheelbarrow or other light, wheeled vehicle, in which a wheel axle is an integral part of a tube or rod which has parts at opposite ends of the axle part bent relatively to the latter to form axle mountings or parts which transfer load to the suspension.
2. Avehicle as claimed n claim 1, in which the bent parts of the tube or rod at opposite ends of the axle part are fastened to the body of the vehicle.
3. Avehicle as claimed in claim 1, in which the bent parts of the tube or rod at opposite ends of the axle part are slidably supported on the body and are movable against the action of springs.
4. A vehicle as claimed in claim 1,2 or3 having a single wheel or two spaced wheelsjournalled on the axle part.
5. Awheelbarrow or other light, wheeled vehicle substantially as hereinbefore described with refer ence to the accompanying drawings.
