Abstract

The wood clamp has a base 17, to which are attached two parallel shafts, 14 and 15, on each of which is mounted a pair of spaced clamp arms 10, 20 and 13, 21, the arms on one of the shafts 14 being pivotable by handles 16 to effect the clamping action. Large items, such as doors, can be held firm in the wood clamp by using support faces 23, against clamp arms 13 and 21, or alternatively by using clamp arm tips, 22, against clamp arms 13 and 21. Items such as sheet metal or plywood can be held firm by clamping between support face 12, and base 17. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Wood clamp This invention relates to a wood clamp.
Saw horses are well known tools for sawing wood.
They comprise of four arms at 60 degrees, into which the wood to be sawn is placed.
Saw horses are relatively ineffective in holding the wood firm. Also the wood has to be held with one hand while being worked, and has to be repositioned in the saw horse after each cut. They are also limited to the shape and size of wood to be worked, and only one piece of wood can be sawn at onetime.
According to the present invention, there is provided four arms on a base, two curved and two at 75 degrees.
The two curved arms are mounted on a shaft, which is rotated by a two screw system mounted on lever arms One curved clamp arm and one straight clamp arm are allowed to slide on their mounting shafts horizontally up and down the machine. The remaining curved clamp arm and the straight clamp arm are fixed on their mounting shafts and do not slide.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be shown with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which; Figure 1 Illustrates an end on view with clamp arms closed.
Figure2 Shows an end on view with clamp arms open.
Figure 3 Shows front side view of rotating clamp arms mounting shaft, with one fixed curved clamp arm and one sliding curved clamp arm.
Figure 4Shows rear side view offixed clamp arm mounting shaft, with one fixed straight clamp arm and one sliding straight clamp arm.
Figure 511 lustrates a perspective view of straight and curved clamp arms, complete with suitable grips attached.
Referring to the drawing as shown in Figure 3. The wood clamp comprises; abase 17 mounted on four legs 18. (two shown) Fitted to these legs 18 are two foot bars 24. (one shown) Two legs 18 at the front side of the wood clamp fold back when machine is not being used. (not shown) Mounted on the front side ofthe base,17 Figure 3 is one mounting shaft 14. This shaft 14 is attached to base 17 by two bea rings 1 9. Th is allows shaft 1 4 to be rotated bythreadedshafts 16.
Mounted on shaft 14 is one fixed curved clamp arm 10 and one sliding curved clamp arm 20, which slides horizontally on it's mounting shaft 14 in direction of arrows.
On the opposite side of the base 17, illustrated Figure 4, is a fixed mounting shaft 15, on which is fitted one fixed straight clamp arm 13, and one sliding straight clamp arm 21,which slides horizontally on mounting shaft 15 in direction of arrows.
The pieces of wood to be sawn are placed into clamp arm l0asshown Figure2 and reston supportl 1 which holds therm in positionforclamping.
Clamp arms 21 & 20 Figures3 & can then be slid horizontally up and down the machine on shafts 14 & BR< 15, allowing for cuts to be made in between arms 13 & 1 to required length.
Clamps arms 10 & 0 Figure4arethen rotated to clamp by turning threaded shafts 16 clockwise. Turn shaft 16 anti-clockwise to release clamp.
Supports 11, illustrated Figures 1,2 & can also be used to clamp items by sliding clamp arms 20 Figure 3 horizontally along shaft 14to a singular position.
Shown Figures 1 & .
Pieces can be clamped between supportface 12 and base 17, byturning shafts 16clockwise.
Illustrated Figures 2,4 & 5. Items can be clamped by supportfaces 23 against straightclamp arms 13 & 1, or alternatively by tips 22 of curved clamp arms 10 & BR< 20, by sliding horizontally either clamp arm 20 or 21 on mounting shafts 14 & 5 into adirectionally opposite position.
Turn shafts 16 clockwiseto clamp.
