Abstract
A securing device for a heat storage device is in the form of a mounting bracket, moulded of plastics material, comprising a generally rectangular base (10) and an integral securing element (12) which extends generally parallel to the plan of the base, providing, when the securing device is screwed in position to a wall, an upwardly-open slot (14). The rear of the heat storage device is provided with a recess (20) which is larger from the base (10) and from which a central opening (22) extends, the opening (22) being slightly larger than the element (12). In this manner the heat storage device may be located very close to the wall without any significant metal conduction path extending from the heat storage device to the wall. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements relating to the securing of heat stor
age devices.
Description ofinvention This invention is concerned with the securing of
heat storage devices, particularly heat storage devices
ofthe kind (hereinafter referred to as being ofthe kind
specified) comprising a heat store, electrical heating meansfor heating the store, a control meansfor regulating the flow of electric currentto the heating
means during an off-peak charging period, means
providing forflow of air into contact with the heat
store and thereafterto a space or place to be heated,
and flow control means for controlling the flow of said
air.
Conventionally heat storage devices ofthe kind
specified are placed on a floor usually adjacent to a
wall. The desirability of reducing the depth ofthe heat
storage device has evolved a slim-line design which
for safety reasons is required to be secured to the wall.
Conventionally used is an elongate, horizontally
extending metal bracketwhich is screwed to the wall
and to which the heat storage device is subsequently
screwed. It is necessarvthatthe bracket be secured
accurately to the wall, and subsequent screwing of the
heat storage device to the bracket is somewhat
intricate.
A disadvantage of conventional methods of secured ing heat storage devices of the kind specified is that
heat is transmitted directly into the wall, and this may
cause damage.
According to this invention there is provided a
method of securing a heat storage device to awall,
involving the use of a plastics securing bracket
Thus where the heat storage device is so mounted
and the bracket serves to prevent undesired move
ment of the heat storage device, this is accomplished
without the disadvantage of direct conduction of heat tothewall.
According to this invention there is also provided a
securing deviceforsecuring a heat storage device to a
vertical surface such as a walt, the securingdevice comprising a base adapted to be screwed to the
surface and a securing element engagable with the
heat storage device to retain the heat storage device
against undesired movement away from the surface,
such astilting movement, the securing device being of
plastics material.
Preferably the securing element is engagable with
the heat storage device without the need for additional
securing members such as screws. Thus advan i tageauslythe the securing element is spaced from the
base and (when the securing device is secured in
position) projects upwardly, an upwardly-open space orslot being provided between the base and the
securing element into which (e.g.) a downwardly l projecting partofthe heatstorag,e device may be enteredb engagernentof suc?l clowrwward?y-projecting part with the securing element preventing undesired movement of the heat storage device away from the wall.
In this manner a degree oftolerance may be provided which allows acceptable cooperation between the securing device and the heat storage device within a range of locations of the securing device relative to the surface.
Preferably the construction and arrangement is such that no direct metal conduction path exists from the heat storage deviceto the wall by way of the securing device.
Advantageously the securing device also provides a means to retain the rearwall ofthe heat storage device spaced from the wall to which the heat storage device is secured.
According to this invention there is also provided, in combination, a heat storage device and a wallmounting bracket, the mounting bracket comprising a securing element which when the mounting bracket is secured to the wall projects upwardly, and the heat storage device comprises a downwardly-projecting element behind which the securing element may be located to restrain the heat storage device against movement away from the wall.
Preferably the mounting bracket is of plastics material.
There will now be given a detailed description, to be read with reference to the accompanying drawings, of a securing device, for use in the securing of a heat storage device ofthe kindspecifiedtoavertical- surface such as a wall, which securing device, together with the combination of heat storage device and securing device, and the method by which the heat storage device is secured to the wall, is illustrative ofthis invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
FIGURE lisa schematic vertical sectional view showing the heat storage device secured in position to awall bythe use ofthesecuring device which is the preferred embodiment of this invention; and
FIGURE 2 is an exploded perspective view showing the heat storage device andthe securing device
The securing device which is the preferred embodiment of this invention, alternatively termed a mounting bracket, is moulded of plastics material, and comprises a generally reactangular base 10 and an integral securing element 12. The securing element extends generally parallel to the plane ofthe base, providing, when the securing device is screwed in position to a wall, an upwardly-open slot 14.
The rear ofthe heat storage device, which is particularly of the kind specified, and is adapted to be mounted on the floor adjacent to a wall, is provided with a recess 20 which is largerthan the base 10, and from which a central opening 22 extends, the opening 22 being slightly largerthanthe element 12.
With the securing device screwed to the wall bythe use of screws 16 (which may be of a metal but may advantageously be of plastics) the heat storage device may be moved towards the wall, with the recess 20 passing overthe base 10, andthe opening 22 passing over the element 1 2 The heat storage device is then
lowered, wall portion 24 passing into the upwardly
open slot 14, engagement of portion 24 with the element 12 subsequently preventing movement ofthe heat storage device away from the wall.
In this mannerthe heat storage device may be located very close to the wall without any significant metal conduction path extending from the heat storage device into the wall. In addition, by increasing the size ofthe recess 20 and opening 22, and if necessarythevertical length ofthe upwardly-open slot 14 acceptable securing ofthe heat storage device to the wall may be achieved despite some inaccuracy in the positioning of the mounting device on the wall our gradual compression ofthefloor surface on which the heat storage device stands.
twill be appreciated that the heat storage device is heid close to the wall by the securing device, and does not hang from the securing device.
During installation ofthe heat storage device, the heat store (generally very heavy) may temporarily be removed from the casing of the heat storage device, and the casing (comprising wall portion 24) may then be received by the securing element, so as to stand on the floor close to the wall. The heat store may then be placed back in the casing, the complete heat storage device thereby becoming generally too heavy to be simply lifted offthe securing element, so lessening risk oftampering with the heat storage device by an unauthorised person.
The features disclosed in the foregoing description, orthe following claims, orthe accompanying drawings, expressed in their specific forms or in terms of a meansfor performing the disclosed function, or a method or process for attaining the disclosed result, ora class or group of substances or compositions, as appropriate, may, separately or in any combination of such features, be utilised for realising the invention in diverse formsthereof.
