Abstract

The ventilator has a plurality of louvre-blades 1 which are mounted between side jambs 3 by means of blade-holders 2 which have recesses to receive the blade-ends and which fit into channels in the jambs. A resilient protruberance 2d on the edge of the blade-holder allows positive location of the holder within the jamb channels. The blade holders are made of plastics and the blades are made of aluminium or plastics. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to fixed louvre ventilators This invention relates to fixed-louvre ventilators of the type where a plurality of parallel fixed louvre-blades are mounted within a rectangular framework, with appropriate gaps between adjacent blades.
The blade-ends are normally fixed into the frame members by means of screws passing through the outer surface of the frame member and into screw holes in the ends of the blades.
This leads to certain difficulties in assembly; especially on-site assembly.
This invention solves such assembly problems by providing a simple and accurate means of assembling louvre blades within a pre-fabricated framework.
This invention consists in a fixed-louvre ventilator having a rectangular frame work comprising two parallel jambs, a plurality of bladeholders adapted to fit into said jambs and a plurality of louvre blades, the blade-holders having shaped recesses to receive the ends of the blades.
Preferably the jambs have inwardly directed flanges serving to form channels within which the blade holders are located.
Preferably the blades are of generally Zshaped section and the recesses in the bladeholders are of complementary shape so as to receive the blade ends.
In a second aspect the invention comprises a blade-holder for a louvre blade, the bladeholder being integrally moulded as a single piece of thermoplastic or thermo-setting material and having edge portions adapted to fit into channel in a jamb member and a recess adapted to receive the end of a louvre blade and of complementary shape to that end.
Preferably the blade-holders have outwardlybiassed resilient protrusions at one edge, whereby the blade-holder is a frictional fit within the channel.
The invention will now be further described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a blade-holder according to this invention Figure 2 shows section through a blade-holder according to the invention, and Figure 3 shows the assembly of blades and blade-holders within a typical ventilator frame.
With reference to Figs. 1 and 2 a typical blade-holder 2 is shown, having two limbs (2a and 2b) adapted to slot into channel recesses in a frame jamb, a slot (2c) to receive a blade-end, and an outwardly-biassed resilient protrusion (2d) used to frictionally engage the blade-holder with an inner surface of the channel recess and to tighten the grip of the blade-holder on the louvre blade.
With reference to Fig. 3, the assembly procedure is as follows; A pair of jambs 3, of generally channelshaped section and having inwardly-directed flanges designated 3a and 3b, are spaced apart in a prepared opening. The ends of aluminium blades, 1 are pressed into the locating recesses in the blade-holders 2. A starter block 4 is pushed to the bottom of the channel. The assembled blades and holders are then located in the tops of channels in the jambs 3, the first blade being pushed to the bottom of the unit to engage with the starter block 4 and successive blades are then superimposed until the desired number of blades have been assembled in the frame. The outwardly biassed protruberance on each bladeholder allows frictional engagement of the holder with an inner surface of the channel and also allows the holder to tighten its grip on the louvre blade.
The blade-holders 3 will normally be injection-moulded as a single piece of plastics material. The blades 1 may be of aluminium or a suitable plastics material.
1. A fixed-louvre ventilator having a rectangular framework comprising two parallel jambs, a plurality of blade-holders adapted to fit into said jambs and a plurality of louvre blades, the blade-holders having shaped recesses to receive the ends of the blades.
2. A ventilator as claimed in claim 1 in which the jambs having inwardly-directed flanges defining channels within which the blade-holders are located.
3. A ventilator as claimed in claims 1 or 2 in which the blades are of generally Z-shaped section and the recesses in the blade-holders are of complementary shape.
4. A blade-holder moulded from a single piece of plastics material, having edge-portions adapted to fit into channels in a jamb member and a recess formed therein adapted to receive the end of a louvre blade and of complementary shape thereto.
5. A blade-holder as claimed in claim 4 which incorporates an outwardly-biassed protruberance at one edge, whereby the bladeholder is a frictional fit within the channel.
6. A fixed louvre ventilator assembly substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Fig. 3.
7. A blade-holder substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figs. 1 and 2.
