Abstract

In a W.C. siphon, the siphon assembly 6 is demountable e.g. for maintenance, from the fixed downpipe 1 by removing the spigot 7 from the socket 4. A rubber O-ring may be used to form a watertight joint in the sockets 4. A clip 8 may also be used in order that the lower end of the siphon assembly 6 may be releasably attached to the fixed pipe 1. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Two-part w.c. siphon This invention relates to a two-part water cistern siphon.
A W.C. siphon is a one-piece device which, by manual operation of a lever, raises water from the W.C. cistern and propels it into a channel leading to the W.C. bowl. The siphonic action once initiated continues until the cistern discharges.
Frequent use, however, leads to the failure by wear of the water seals within the siphon.
These seals are completely inaccessible so replacement can only be achieved by wholly removing the siphon thereby effecting the loss of the charge of water in the cistern and spending disproportionate time on routine maintenance.
According to the present invention there is provided a two-part W.C. siphon comprising a fixed pipe and a demountable siphon assembly.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings (scale half full size) in which; Drawing 1/3 shows the siphon assembly with the fixed pipe in position in the cistern.
Drawing 2/3 shows the siphon assembly removed for repair with the water level maintained. A cutaway shows the O-ring seal.
Drawing 3/3 shows a section taken through the arrangement shown in 1/3 to illustrate the retaining clip.
Referring to drawing 1/3 the siphon comprises a fixed pipe 1 secured to the cistern with a locknut 2, the water seal at the lower end being provided by a rubber washer 3.
The upper end of this pipe has a socket joint 4 with a rubber O-ring 5 forming a watertight joint with the demountable siphon assembly 6.
The demountable siphon assembly 6 terminates at its upper end with a spigot 7 sized to form a watertight joint in the socket 4. At its lower end, adjacent to the fixed pipe, there is provided a n integrally moulded clip 8 proportioned to grip firmly on the rigid body of the fixed pipe.
In order to remove the siphon assembly 6 from the cistern, the wire link 9 is disengaged before sliding the assembly upwards until the spigot is clear of the socket 4. Sideways pressure at the clip 8 enables final separation for repairs.
To reassemble the siphon on the fixed pipe the steps described above are carried out in reverse order.
1. A two-part W.C. siphon comprising a fixed pipe and a siphon assembly, means for releasably securing the siphon assembly onto the fixed pipe, the siphon assembly being adapted to slide on and off the fixed pipe.
2. A demountable two-part siphon as claimed in Claim 1 wherein means are provided to form a watertight seal between the siphon assembly and the fixed pipe.
