Description
SPECIFICATION
Scraper apparatus and collecting bag therefor
The present invention relates to scraper apparatus 3nd to a material collecting bag therefor.
It is the principal object of the present invention to provide apparatus serving to uplift material, such as snimal excretions, fromthe ground in a way which enables clean disposal of the material.
According to one aspectofthe present invention there is provided scraper apparatus for uplifting material comprising a bottom part defining a material collecting tray, a top part movable relative to the bottom part and including a front, transversely extending, scraper element, said top and bottom parts including means for securing mouth portions of a material collecting bag to be housed in said apparatus.
Preferably said top part comprises a lid forthe bottom part. Preferably handle means are providedforthetop and bottom parts. Preferably the handle means comprises a pair of side-by-side handles each associated with a respective top or bottom part. The handles can be connected by articulated connecting means permitting said relative movement between the top and bottom parts.
In a preferred embodiment the securing means comprises velcro (Registered Trade Mark) type strips.
According to another aspect of the present invention there is provided a material collecting bag for the above scraper apparatus, said bag including mouth portions adapted to be securable to said securing means ofthe securing apparatus and capable of extending with the top part during relative movement ofthetop and bottom parts.
The bag is preferably of envelope form.
Preferably said bag includes a drawable cord for closure of the bag mouth.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Fig. 1 shows a side view of a scraper apparatus with
a material collecting bag installed, in accordance with the present invention, and
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the apparatus.
Referring to the drawings, scraper apparatus 1 for
uplifting material, such as animal excretions, from the
ground comprises a bottom tray part 2 having a floor 3, and side and back walls 4,5, and a handle6fixedto wall Sextends rearwardlyfromthetray. Thetray part 2
is closed by a lid 7 having a front, transversely
extending scraper plate 8; a handle 9 is secured to the li d 7 and extends substantially side-by-side with the
handle 6, the handle 9 extending through a slot in wall 5. An articulated connecting link 10 connects the handles 6,9.
The tray part 2 serves to house a material collecting bag 11 (shown dashed) which can be intheform of an envelope. The bottom of the tray 2 includes avelco strip 12 and one side of the mouth part of the bag is folded around the front lips offloor 3 and secured to said strip 12, while the lid 7 includes velco strips 13, 14 and the other side of the mouth part of the bag is folded around the scraper plate 8 and secured to these strips 13, 14 With the apparatus 1 in a normal closed condition a mouth portion l5ofthe bag is bunched (or in concertina form) so that when the lid 7 is moved forwardly away from the tray 2 (to the dashed position) said other side of the bag mouth can move with the lid 7.The bag 11 includes a drawable cord 16 to close the bag the ends of which cord extend through slots 17 in the side walls 4 of the tray whereby the bag can be closed while in the appratus 1. In use, with the bag 11 fitted in the apparatus I, the lid 7 can be moved forwardly away from the tray 2 (as shown dashed) and material can be scraped into the bag 11 onthetray 2 by the scraper 8 in a 'brush-and-shovel' manner. Since the scraper8 is covered by a bag portion, no material need actually collect on the surface of the apparatus 1; and the material can be-cleanly disposed of simply by drawing the cord 16 to close the bag, and then dropping the bag into a suitable waste container.
1. Scraper apparatus for uplifting material com- prising a bottom part defining a material collecting tray, a top part movable relative to the bottom part and including a front, transversely extending, scraper element, said top and bottom parts including means for securing mouth portions of a material collecting bag to be housed in said apparatus.
2. Scraper apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said top part comprises a lidforthe bottom part.
3. Scraper apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein handle means are providedforthe top and bottom parts.
4. Scraper apparatus as claimed in claim 3 wherein the handle means comprise a pairofside-by-side handles each associated with a respective top or bottom part.
5. Scraper apparatus as claimed in claim 4wherein the handles are connected to articulated connecting means permitting said relative movement between the top and bottom parts.
6. Scraper apparatus as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the securing means comprises velcro type strips.
7. A material collecting bag for a scraper apparatus as claimed in any preceding claim, said bag including mouth portions adapted to be securable to said securing means of the securing apparatus and capable of extending with the top part during relative movement of the top and bottom parts.
8. A bag as claimed in claim 7 which is of envelope form.
9. A bag as claimed in claim 7 or8 including a drawable cord for closure of the bag mouth.
10. A scraper apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
