Abstract
A garment especially designed for shaping the buttocks comprises one at least partially stretchable front piece and a stretchable rear piece. The garment is provided with two side seams joining the front and rear pieces and a vertical centre seam at the back joining the hip gusset area of the front piece to that of the rear piece. The seams joining the front and rear pieces extend, in use, over the mid-slopes or near the base of the buttocks so as to not show through any outer clothing. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Buttock shaping garment
The present invention relates to garments, for example girdles, for shaping the silhouette of the body by shaping the buttocks vertically and horizontally.
Figures 2(a) and 2(b) of the accompanying drawings show some prior art arrangements. The three seam back type girdle shown in Figure 2(a) and the buttock cutting type girdle shown in Figure 2(b) are examples of conventional garments for shaping buttocks. In known garments wherein the buttock cutting structure is based on a three seam back model, as shown in Figure 2(a), the seams 1 and 2 on both sides of the buttocks pass over the most prominent part of the ridge of the buttocks (see the one-dot chain line in Figure 3), and therefore tend to show through the wearer's outer clothing. Furthermore, since the fabrics in the areas 3 shown by cross hatching in Figure 2(a) are flat, it is impossible to exhibit the roundness of the buttocks, and the vertical shaping potential is also limited.Furthermore, the rear crotch seam 4 is visible from the rear side; this seam is ugly and also tends to show through outer clothing.
In garments of the type shown in Figure 2(b), the seams 5 and 6 also have to pass over the most prominent part of the buttocks to reach the crotch seam 4, so that the seams 5, 6 tend to show through outer clothing and the reinforcement in the lower areas 7 of the buttocks shown by the cross hatching is weak. Furthermore, the seams 5, 6 come down to the rear crotch seam 4, making the crotch seam visible from the rear side, and again this seam looks ugly and tends to show through outer clothing.
Viewed from one aspect the invention provides a garment adapted to shape the buttocks of a wearer, comprising a front piece which is stretchable at least in the areas thereof other than the central abdominal area, and a stretchable rear piece having a central vertical seam, side seams joining said front and rear pieces being arranged to pass beneath the cheeks of the buttocks and to meet in the crotch at a point on said central seam which is not visible from the rear in use, the said central seam extending forwardly from the said meeting point as a crotch seam and joining with a central crotch projection of the said front piece.
Several embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows the cloth pieces of an embodiment in the form of a panty~gifdle, Figure 2 shows a back-side view of two known prior art buttock shaping garments being worn.
Figure 3 shows a side-view of the buttocks illustrating the effects of a buttock shaping garment.
Figure 4 shows the panty girdle of the construction shown in Figure 1 being worn.
Figure 5 is a view from below of the panty girdle of Figure 4,
Figure 6 shows the panty girdle of Figure 1 with the lower portions of the cloth pieces having been sewn together,
Figure 7 shows the cut-out cloth pieces for a second embodiment in the form of a high-waist panty girdle,
Figure 8 shows half a cut-out pattern for cloth pieces forming a third embodiment in the form of a long panty girdle and
Figure 9 shows half a cut-out pattern for cloth pieces forming a fourth embodiment in the form of a body suit.
In Figure 1 piece 11 indicates a half front cloth piece and piece 12 a half rear cloth piece. The side edge D-N-E of the each half front piece 11 is sewn to the respective side edge H-O-I of each half rear piece 12, and both the thus formed cloth pieces are then sewn together along the side edges J-K-I-E-F of the half front and rear pieces 11 and 12, whereby the sewing may be appropriately effected with an elastic fabric tape lining the seam, in which case the side edges along the lines K-l should preferably be sewn together so as to form horizontal thin shrinking creases, though elastic fabric tape is not necessarily required. The half front and rear pieces can also be made of a stretchable material and sewn together to form shrinking creases along the line K-l by the sewing itself at the edges. While the joining so as to form shrinking creases it not necessarily required, the shrinking creases thus formed can advantageously allow the garment to smoothly and comfortably fit the wearer. Next the side edges along the lines A-B of the half front pieces 11, 11 are sewn together Subsequently, the side edges along the lines G-F, F-G at the front ends of the hip gusset areas of the half front pieces are joined respectively to the edges along the lines C-B, B-C at the central crotch projection in the front piece to form a front crotch seam. It is preferred that to shape the abdominal portion particularly effectively the panty girdle is reinforced by lining it with heart-shaped or slender, roundish and pentagonal cloth shown by the broken lines L-M.If the reinforcing cloth is made of a fabric stretchable in the verticle direction, indicated by the arrow mark Y-Y, but unstretchable in the horizontal direction, indicated by the mark X-X, such shaping can be effected even more successfully. However, this portion of the front cloth may be composed solely of a decoration cloth consisting, for instance, of
Raschel lace to divide the front cloth into three pieces, or the decoration cloth may be composed of two pieces to divide the whole front cloth into four pieces. Furthermore, while this central lower abdominal portion of the front cloth can be made entirely of unstretchable material, according to the wearer's abdominal figure, it can also be made of material that is stretchable to a similar or different extent from that of other portions. Thus, this portion can be appropriately modified according to the body figure of the abdominal region to be shaped.
It is important that the seam of the line D-E of the front cloth with the line H-l of the rear cloth should pass over the mid-slope, or near the base of the buttocks, which is lower than the peak. The seam thus formed is shown with a double broken line in
Figure 4. As seen in the Figure, the buttock cutting line of the seam runs so low that the seam does not show through outer clothing producing an apparently buttock-raising effect in the lower part of the buttocks. In addition, the ugly crotch seam in the rear is eliminated. Whereas conventional crotches are flat and exert no such buttock-raising effect, the tops of the rear cloths according to the present invention come down to the crotch, thus shaping upwardly the buttocks.
Figure 5 shows the panty girdle of the first embodiment being worn and viewed upwardly from below. As clearly seen in the Figure, the panty girdle fits satisfactorily the body of a woman by virtue of the appropriate seam lines of the front and rear cloths and the crotch seam lines of the half front cloths. Figure 6 shows the panty girdle of Figure 1 with the lower portions having been sewn.
The seam lines are indicated with broken lines in the Figure.
Additionally, it is possible to fit a soft crotch cloth baggily to the inside of the crotch portion in a well known manner in order to further improve the feeling of this panty girdle when worn so that it will feel especially soft.
Whereas the panty girdle of the present invention has been illustrated mainly by means of the two half front pieces and two half rear pieces, use can also be made of one cut-out front cloth piece wherein said two half front pieces have been connected at the central line A-B, as well as of one rear cloth piece wherein said two half rear portions have been joined at the line K-l with formation of darts in the portion J-J. In such a case, sewing may be effected with a reinforcing seam or seams being provided and/or with an elastic fabric being lined along the line K-l so as to form shrinking creases.
Figure 7 shows the cut-out cloth patterns for an embodiment in the form of a high-waist panty girdle. In this example, there is shown a case wherein a decoration cloth is to be employed in the central rhombic abdominal portion of the front cloth, but any shape of this decoration cloth is possible. In this Figure, the upper portions of the half front cloth pieces 21 and half rear cloth pieces 22 are formed comparatively broadly in accordance with the corrected waist line for tightening the waist.
The panty girdle is otherwise similar to that shown in Figure 1.
Figure 8 shows the cut-out patterns of the half front piece 31 and half rear piece 32 of a long panty girdle to be worn under a pair of trousers.
The girdle is similar to those described above but the buttocks are seemingly raised by forming the girdle so as to wrap the whole of the region extending from the hips to the femur in it, with the round buttocks and the line to the femoral region being clearly shaped.
Figure 9 shows the cut-out patterns of the half front piece 41 and half rear piece 42 of a body suit.
In this case, the cloth pieces have been so cut out as to form the waist to underbust for integrally shaping the abdominal waist and bust regions. The upper portions are to be appropriately modified according to the individual body shapes of women as a matter of course.
It will be seen that, at least in its preferred forms, a garment is provided in which the position of the seam line between the front cloth against the abdominal region and the rear cloth against the buttock region i.e. that of the cutting line of the buttock portion, is considerably lowered from the conventional level. Thus, the seam line does not pass over the peak of the buttocks but over the mid-slope or near the base of the buttocks, and the triangular tip at the bottom of the half rear piece arrives at the lower part of the crotch which is invisible when the garment is worn.Accordingly, the crotch seam does not appear at the rear side of the buttocks, and the lower part of the buttocks, which is the area most likely to sag and requiring frequent manipulation, is reinforced to raise the buttocks with the roundish buttock line not being disturbed by the seam line which does not show through any outer clothing.
A garment is thus provided for shaping buttocks which is so constructed that the lateral silhouette of the shape of the buttocks is exhibited by raising the buttocks as shown by a solid line, in the laterial silhouette of the body shown by a broken line in
Figure 3, while the seams of the garment do not show through outer clothing.
It is to be clearly understood that there are no particular features of the foregoing specification, or of any claims appended hereto, which are at present regarded as being essentialto the performance of the present invention, and that any one or more of such features or combinations thereof may therefore be included in, added to, omitted from or deleted from any of such claims if and when amended during the prosecution of this application or in the filing or prosecution of any divisional application based thereon.
