Abstract

An assembly of kitchen furniture comprises a piece of kitchen equipment, for example a cooker (1), the front surface of which is located adjacent a vertical surface, for example, the front surface of a cupboard (2). A decorative motif (5, 6) extends across the front surface of the cooker and a similar motif (7, 8) is located on the front surface of the cupboard so that it forms an extension of the motif on the cooker. The cooker may be located between and adjacent two cupboards (2, 3) each of which carries a motif (7, 8; 9, 10) forming an extension of the motif on the cooker. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to kitchen furniture This invention relates to kitchen furniture and has particular but not exclusive reference to domestic kitchen furniture.
According to the present invention, an arrangement of kitchen furniture comprises a vertical surface adjacent to which is located a piece of kitchen equipment for example a cooker, refrigerator, microwave oven, dish washer, washing machine, tumble dryer on whose front surface is a decorative motif extending across the front surface of the equipment and in which there is a decorative motif on the surface in such a location that itforms an extension ofthe decorative motif on the equipment.
The equipment may have several separate motifs at least one of which is extended in the manner referred to above.
Preferably, the decorative motif on the surface is similarto orthe same as that on the surface ofthe equipment.
The vertical surface may be that of a floor standing kitchen cabinet or cupboard.
In one embodiment of the invention, a cooker is located between two sets offloorstanding kitchen cupboards or cabinets each bearing on its front surface a motif or motifs positioned to form a continuation of a motif or motifs on the cooker.
Alternatively, a refrigerator, washing machine or tumbler dryer may be so located.
By way of example only, examples ofthe invention will now be described in greater detail with reference to the accompanying drawings of which: Fig. lisa perspective view of an arrangement of kitchen furniture embodying the invention, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of another arrangement of kitchen furniture embodying the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a gas cooker 1 positioned across the corner of a kitchen between adjacent floor standing kitchen cupboards 2, 3.
The cooker has a grill chamber beneath the top burnerthat is closed by a grill chamber door 4. The door 4 has, across its front external surface a decorative motif in the form of two, spaced parallel horizontal lines 5,6 of which the upper 5 is of somewhatgreaterwidth than the lower 6.
The decorative motif on the grill chamber door 3 is continued on the front external surfaces ofthe cupboards 2,3 as indicated at7 and 8,9 and 10 respectively.
The decorative motif is also continued on another floor standing cupboard 11 adjacent cupboard 3, and also on a further floor standing cupboard 12 spaced from cupboard 2 but supporting a common work surface 13. Such continuations are indicated at 14 and 15.
The cooker 1 also has an oven door 16with a decorative motif 17 on its front external surface, the motif being identical with motif 5,6 on the grill chamberdoor4. The motif 17 is not continued on the cupboards 2,3, 11 and 12 because the latter have toe recesses at aboutthe height of the motif 17. If cupboards without such recesses are used, the motif 17 onthe oven door 16 couid be extended in a manner similarto that in which the motif 5,6 is extended.
Afurther motif 18 similarto motifs 5,6 is used on the front external surface of the control fascia 19 of cooker 1. Motif 18 is also continued on the front external surfaces ofthe cupboards 2,3, 11 and 12 as indicated at 20.
Thefurnitureshown in Fig. 1 also includes wall mounted cupboards 21 and it will be observed that the front external surfaces ofthese cupboards carry spaced motifs 22,23 similarto motif 5,6. The motifs 22,23 are spaced apart by a distance equal to that separate motif 5, from motif 18.
Itwill be appreciated that it is not essential that the cooker be located in a corner. It could be housed between floor standing cupboards along a straight wall orin an island site, the motifs being continued on adjacent surfaces in a manner similarto that described above.
The motifs on the cupboards may be different from that on the cooker, for example a single line may be used on the cupboards. A more pleasing appearance may also be obtained if the motifs on the cupboards are generally similarto that on the cooker.
Fig. 2 shows kitchen furniture including a corner located gas cooker 24 with similar motifs on its control fascia 25, grill chamber door 26 and oven door 27. The motif comprises spaced parallel lines 28,29 of substantial equal thicknesses.
The motifs 28,29 are continued as single lines 30 on adjacent floor standing cupboards 31,32. The thick ness of the single line may approximate to that of the motifs 28,29 taken together with the space between them.
It will be appreciated that the concept of extending decorative motifs can be extended to other kitchen equipment than gas cookers. For example, it can be applied to electric cookers, refrigerators, dish washers, washing machines, tumble dryers, micro wave ovens. The equipment may be floor standing or built in to recesses provided in kitchen cupboards or cabinets or in cabinets especially designed to accommodate the equipment.
