Abstract
Disposable incontinence pants comprise a sheet (1) of moisture- impermeable material, the sheet (1) comprising a front part (2) and a rear part (3) interconnected by a narrowed crutch part (4), the rear part (3) being wider than the front part (2) to provide portions (5, 6) for overlapping in the region of the hips when worn and on the sheet (1) are layers (8) of moisture- absorbent and moisture-permeable material, which layers (8) are of similar shape to the sheet (1) but smaller, and stitched at the edge thereof to the sheet (1). <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Disposable incontinence pants
This invention relates to disposable incontinence pants.
Washable plastics pants are known provided with a gusset into which disposable moisture absorbent pads may be inserted. These are unsuitable for mobile incontinence sufferers who wish to go outside without the fear of embarrassment caused by unsightly bulges.
According to the invention there is provided disposable incontinence pants comprising a sheet of moisture-impermeable material, the sheet comprising front and rear parts interconnected by a narrowed crutch part, one of the front and rear parts being wider than the other to provide portions for overlapping in the region of the hips when worn, a layer of layers of moisture-absorbent material on the sheet, and a layer of moisture-permeable material on the moisture-absorbent material, the moisture-absorbent and moisture-permeable material being of similar shape to the sheet but smaller and attached at the edge thereof to the sheet.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:~
Fig 1 shows disposable incontinence pants in an opened condition;
Fig 2 is a front view of the pants when worn;
Fig 3 is a pictorial view of the pants when worn; and
Figs 4, 5 and 6 correspond respectively to Figs 1,2 and 3 and show modified disposable incontinence pants.
In Figs 1 to 3 the disposable incontinence pants comprise a sheet 1 of moisture-impermeable polyethylene. The sheet 1 comprises a front part 2, a rear part 3 and a narrowed crutch part 4. The rear part 3 is wider than the front part 2 to provide portions 5 and 6 for overlapping in the region of the hips when worn (as shown in Figs 2 and 3). The portions 5 and 6 carry double-sided adhesive tapes 7 which, when supplied, will have pull-off strips thereon.
Two horizontal tapes 7 may be provided on each portion 5, 6 as shown. Alternatively one vertical tape 7 may be provided on each portion 5, 6.
Layers 8 of moisture-absorbent and moisturepermeable material are provided on the sheet 1 and of a similar shape thereto but smaller. The moisture- absorbent layers may comprise an outer layer or layers of crepe paper and an inner layer of cotton wool. Over the cotton wool layer is a layer of moisture-permeable gauze which may be of polyethylene strands. The layers 8 may be stitched at the edge thereof to the sheet 1. Shirring elastic may be applied to the curved edges 9 of the sheer 1 for holding the edges 9 to the legs of the wearer.
The pants shown in Figs 4 to 6 differ from the pants in Figs 1 to 3 in that the tapes 7 are omitted and replaced by slits 10 near the edges of the portions 5 and 6 and slits 11 nearthe centre of the front part 2. As shown in Fig 6, a length of tape 12 may be threaded through the slits 10 and 11. The tape may be bias binding tape and the ends may be either tied together or secured together by means of the two cooperating elements of a "Velcro" (Registered Trade Mark) fastening applied to the respective ends. It is envisaged to provide a single length of tape with a pack of say ten or a dozen pants.
The disposable pants would be inexpensive to produce and would save in home and hospital laundry bills. They would also be safe and comfortable to wear and save the wearer embarrassment.
