Abstract
A plant basket support 1 secures a conventional type plant basket 13 on top of a pole 7. Resilient members 9 are bent back at their upper ends to form basket retaining lips 11 and at their lower ends the members are secured to hollow section 3 which receives the pole. Alternatively, the lower ends of members 9 are screwed directly on to the pole. The basket is attached to or detached from the pole 7 either filled or unfilled. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements relating to the mounting of plant baskets
The present invention relates to a support for use in mounting a plant basket in a required position.
Plant orflower baskets are generally hemisphereical frameworks which can be made out of wire or integrally moulded out of a suitable plastics material. The baskets are conventionally hung using chains which are connected to the rim of the basket at spread apart locations. The support of such hanging backets requires the baskets to be supported on, for example, a cantilever type framework which is secured to, for example, a wall.
The aim of the present invention is to provide a support which can be used to support a plant basket in an open location without the need for a supportive wall.
According to the present invention there is provided a support for use in mounting a plant basket, said support comprising at least three resilient members which can be mounted by attachment means on a pole, said resilient members being then arranged radially with respect to said pole, the resilient members being designed at their free end regions remote from the said attachment means, to engage and collectively grip a plant basket.
In one embodiment of the present invention each resilient member is made of resilient metal and is a curved elongate member. At one end region of each said member, holes i.e. attachment means, are provided so that the resilient member can be screwed to one end region of a wooden pole. At the other end region of each said member, the metal is bent back on itself to form a retaining lip. Thus with three said resilient members screwed to an end region of a pole, with the elongate members extending generally in the same direction as the longitudinal axis of the pole, the resilient members can be bent to engage the respective retaining lips through and around a part of a conventional wire or plastic plant basket. In this way the resilient members hold the basket in position at the end of the pole. Thus the pole can be positioned vertically in the ground or provided with a base to support it vertically, and a basket can be simply attached to or detached from the resilient members, as and when required, by flexing one or more of the resilient members.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the said attachment means comprises a hollow cylindrical section which is open at one axial end, and which can, in use, be engaged over the free end of a pole and secured thereto by friction and/or screws engaging through holes in the wall of the cylindrical section. Three elongate curved resilient members are secured at spaced apart locations, to the outside wall of the cylindrical section, the resilient members extending generally parallei to the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical section. Thus with the cylindrical section engaged over and secured to a pole or other required support, a plant basket can be supported on the resilient members as previously described; the free end region of each resilent member having a retaining lip.
The present invention may have any number of resilient members, though three is considered to be the minimum for stable support of a basket. Further the resilient members may be painted and/or coated in a plastics material to reduce the chance of corrosion.
The present invention will now be further described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which a perspective view of one embodiment of the present invention with a plant basket in position, is shown.
The support (1) constructed in accordance with the present invention and illustrated in the accompanying drawings comprises attachment means in the form of hollow cylindrical section (3), this section (3) being open at one end (5) to receive a pole (7). Three elongate curved resilient members (9) are secured e.g. welded, to the outside wall of the cylindrical section (3) at equi-spaced apart locations, and extend generally in the same direction as the longitudinal axis of cylindrical section (3). The free end region of each resilient member (9) is bent back on itself to form a basket retaining lip (11).
If required the cylindrical section (3) can be open at both ends. Further, the cylindrical section (3) and the resilient members (9) can be coated in a suitable plastics material to reduce the affects of corrosion.
In use (as shown), a conventional plant basket (13) either previously filled or to be filled, is located between the three resilient members (9) and by flexing one or more members the respective retaining lips (11) are engaged through and around part of the basket (13). The resilient nature of members (9) then pulls radially outwardly with respect to the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical section (3), holding the basket (13) in position. The basket (13) can clearly be simply removed as and when required.
In an alternative embodiment (not shown) the attachment means takes the simple form of holes for screws, the resilient members being separate items which are screwed directly onto a pole at equispaced apart circumferential locations.
Further whilst the above described embodiment utilises three resilient members (9), any number of resilient members (9) can alternatively be used. It is however thought that a minimum of three such members (9) is necessary for stable support of a basket. Further, the resilient members can be designed as part of ornamental wrought tiro work if so desired.
The present invention thus provides a simple means of mounting a plant basket on top of a pole which can be merely embedded in the ground or held in a vertical position by an appropriate base.
1. The aim of the present invention is to provide a support for a conventional type of wire or plastic plant basket in an open location without the need for a supportive wall.
2. As claimed in Claim 1 the conventional type wire or plastic plant basket can be simply attached to or detached from the resilient members, as and

Claims (5)
1. A pole basket support comprises of three or more resilient members, as defined by the new specification in drawings 2/2 herewith, attached to a pole in a vertical position which by way of their bow shape and flexible composition generate an outwards pull at the hook end to create equal holding tension at were the hooks engage through and around evenly spaced identical parts of a conventional plant basket can support the said plant basket securly in its correct position either empty or planted.
2. A pole basket support as claimed in Claim 1, a conventional type of wire or plastic plant basket can be sited in an open location without the need for a supportive wall or beam.
3. A pole basket support as claimed in Claim 2, the conventional wire or plastic plant basket can be supported at a height pre-determined by the lengh of the pole selected.
4. A pole basket support as claimed in Claim 1 to 3, a conventional type of wire or plastic plant basket can be attached to or detached from the resilient members as and when required by flexing one or more of the resilient members with reference the new specifications in drawing 1/2 Figure 11, so that the holding hooks at the free end of the resilient members engage or disengage the plant basket.
5. A pole basket support substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings 1/2 and 2/2.
