Abstract

A saw blade comprising a flexible loop (1) with cutting teeth (2) and depth gauge teeth (3) affixed. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Saw blade This invention relates to a flexible blade for use with power saws, for cutting timber etc.
Flexible blades are used in both chainsaws and bandsaws and are therefore widely used in industry and D.I.Y. the blade described is mainly for use with small chainsaws.
The usual type of blade used in chainsaws is a modified form of bicycle chain, with cutting teeth and pivoted links. If abrasives enter the pivots, wear occurs causing the chain to lengthen. It therefore needs frequent adjustment and lubrication.
According to the present invention, the saw blade consists of a continuous loop of flexible wire with combined cutting and driving teeth affixed.
With reference to the drawing, an example of the invention will now be described.
The flexible wire loop 1, which may be solid or stranded, has two types of teeth affixed, cutting teeth 2 and depth gauge teeth 3. The teeth are fastened to the wire by spot welding or crimping and the loop is joined inside one of the teeth, by the same method.
The loop is driven in conventional manner by a sprocket, which locates with the lower portion of the teeth.
1. A saw blade comprising a continuous flexible loop with cutting teeth and depth gauge teeth affixed.
2. A saw blade as claimed in claim 1, with the cutting teeth separate from the depth gauge teeth.
3. A saw blade as in claims 1 and 2, wherein the teeth are not formed from the loop, but are separately affixed.
4. A saw blade constructed and arranged substantially as herein described, with reference to and as illustrated in figure 1.
Amendments to the claims have been filed, and have the following effect: (a) Claims 1 to 3 above have been deleted or textually amended.
(b) New or textually amended claims have been filed as follows: 1. A saw blade comprising a continuous flexible belt, without links, having cutting teeth and depth gauge teeth affixed.
2. A saw blade as described in claim 1 wherein the teeth are not an integral part of the belt but are fixed to it.
3. A saw blade as claimed in claims 1 & 2 wherein the belt is a solid or stranded flexible loop.
