Abstract

A fish farm for raising fish in the open sea, comprises one or more fish cages, each cage comprising a fish enclosure in the form of a box, and a means of connecting the enclosure to a floating mantel body 1,the mantel body having a cross-section with decreasing width with increasing distance from the upper surface, preferably a triangular cross-section. The fish farm can contain a fish passage 6 and net distender 4, and the sections can be coupled together by energy-absorbing means 7. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Fish farm for raising fish The invention concerns a fish farm for raising fish of high commercial value, ie salmon.
The fish farm is characterised by containing one or more ofthefollowing elements: floating mantal, rubber coupling, fish passage, and net distender.
In fig. 1 are shown a side view and a top view of a section of the fish farm. The following are shown: floating mantal (1), frame for connecting net (2), net (3), net distender (4), fish passage (6), rubber coupling (7).
In fig. 2 is shown a top view ofthe complete fish farm.
In fig. 3 is shown the fish net distender, for preventing the collapse of the net in a severe water current, and to keep the net down in the water by weight. The distender comprises eight pipes. It is kept in position just belowthe bottom of the net by means of eight endless ropes, hanging from the frame for connecting the net. The net is tied on to the endless rope, which makes it possible to lift the net without lifting the distender.
In fig. 4 is shown a cross-section of the floating mantel. The mantel is triangular, causing itto float low in the water. This design offers low resistance to current, wave and wind forces, which result in low forces on construction and decreases the problem of anchoring the mantel in the sea.Alsothedrag-down forces by current are dealt with by deviating from a standard box shape. Further more the mantel works as an oil boom and protects the net against floating debris. It is filled with foam, keeping it floating after a collision.
In fig. 5 is shown a rubber coupling. The method of coupling is bytyres attached to thefloating mantel with chains.
In fig. 6 is shown the fish passage. It is used for transferring fishfrom one netto another, orcan be used to classify the fish. The fish passage consists of rings (8) to which net (10) is sewn.
The invention described above is not limited to the specific examples for construction as given, but can be varied within the scope of the invention.
1. Afish farm for raising fish in open sea, comprising cages with a fish enclosure in the form of a box, and a means of connecting the enclosure to a floating mantel body, the main mantel body having a cross-section with decreasing width with increasing distance from the upper surface.
2. A fish farm as claimed in para 1, wherein the main floating mantel cross-section is triangular.
3. Afish farm as claimed in para 1 orpara 2, wherein the fish enclosure contains a fish passage.
4. Afish farm as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein sections offloating mantels are coupled together by energy-absorbing means, attached to the mantels.
