Abstract

A photocopier includes a mechanism for traversing a carriage (3) to and fro along a controlled path disposed transversely with respect to the direction of movement of a recording medium through the photocopier characterised in that the path is defined by first and second rails (1, 2) coupled together by a linkage that maintains the rails in spaced e.g. parallel relationship whilst permitting movement of one rail towards and away from the other, and in that means are provided for driving the carriage along the path. The carriage may carry a fixing roller and/or toner applicator.
