Abstract

215,941. Walster, J., and Walster, E. April 26, 1923. Cooling motors and radiators, air blast for.- The engines of automobiles are cooled by means of fans with blades having devices under the control of the driver for adjusting the pitch of the blades while running. In one form of fan the shank of each blade has a quick screw-threaded mounting in a boss 1, and the inner ends of the shanks are kept in contact with a conical part 16 by a spring 7. The part 16 is revolublv mounted on a non-rotating rod 14 which can be moved axially by parts 18, 19, 20 and the axial movement causes a radial movement of the fan blades and a consequent turning of the blades about their axis. In a second form, the blades are furnished with toothed pinions meshing with racks carried by a part rotating with the fan and moved axially by a control rod. The lever 18 is adjustable by means of a handwheel and screwed spindle or a Bowden wire may be used. The fan may be used in connection with both air and water cooled engines of motor-cars.
