Description

SPECIFICATION Electric lamp device This invention relates to an electric lamp device suitable for use for reading a book.
According to the invention the device comprises a box for containing electric batteries, a clip fixed to the box adapted to engage a cover of a book between the clip and the box, an arm pivotally attached at one end to the box and having a lamp holder at its other end, said arm comprising a plurality of parts pivoted together whereby the lamp holder can be arranged at various positions relative to the box, a switch being provided for switching the lamp on and off.
In a preferred constructional form of the invention the arm comprises three parts so dimensioned as to become housed when not in use between flanges which project from the box along three sides thereof.
The flanges on one side of the box may be provided by the clip.
The invention will be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings wherein: Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a device made in accordance with the invention in its in use position; Figure 2 is a similar view in closed condition; Figures 3 and 4 are views of the left and right sides of Fig. 2; Figure 5 is a view like Fig. 2 but showing the opposite side of the device; Figures 6 and 7 showing the top and bottom views of Fig. 2; and Figure 8 is a perspective view of the device in use.
The device comprises a box 10 having a slidably removable panel 11 to enable electric batteries to be inserted into the box.
One wall of the box projects at three sides to form flanges 13,14, 15.
The opposite wall 1 6 of the box has a clip fixed to it, this clip consisting of a flat bar 1 8 which is rigidly fixed to the box and a resilient U-shaped member 1 9 which lies closely along the wall 1 6 so that the cover of a book (shown in broken lines 20 in Fig. 8) can be engaged between the member 1 9 and wall 1 6 whereby the device is firmly mounted on the book.
The clip extends beyond the box on three sides in the form of flanges 1 8A, 1 8B, 1 8C thereby forming a channel along each of three sides edges of the box, namely between 1 8A and 13, 18Band 14and 18Cand 15.
A lamp holder arm is attached to one corner of the box and consists of six parts, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 the dimensions of which are selected so that they can all be housed in the channels 18A, 13; 18B, 14; and 18C, 15.
The part 23 is attached to the box on a pivotal axis which is at right angles to the pivotal axis 30 between the parts 23, 24 so as to form a universal joint between the box and part 24. The pivotal axis 31 between the parts 24, 25 is parallel to the axis 30. The pivotal axis 32 between the parts 26, 27 is also parallel to the axis 30 and the pivotal axis between the parts 25, 26 is at right angles to the axis 32 so as to form a universal joint between 25 and 27. The axis of the joint between 27, 28 is also at right angles to the axis 32. The part 28 is in the form of a hood or lamp shade and contains a holder for a lamp 34.
An on-off switch 35 is provided together with suitable electrical connections between the batteries, switch and lamp including electrical conductor wires 36.
The device when closed is very neat and compact and when in use can be firmly mounted on a book and the lamp can be adjusted readily to any convenient position.
