Abstract

A radius gauge providing three arcs for layout or checking: a 90 degree convex arc, a 90 degree concave arc, and a 180 degree concave arc. Each of the arcs is formed with the same radius on a given gauge. A standard size blank can be used to provide a range of gauges covering different radii. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Radius gauge Brief Summary This invention is a radius gauge variations of which are used by patternmakers, machinists, tool, die and mold makers and others. The purpose of the radius gauge is to aid in laying out radii or to check the size of radii on objects. Central to this invention is the uniformity of the size and shape of the blank from which each individual gauge is made. A wide range of radius gauge sizes may be made from the same size blank.
Description of Drawings Fig. 1 is a plan view of the radius gauge.
Applications of each of the three radius forms on each gauge are shown: Fig. 2 is the 90 degree convex radius form being used to check a fillet, Fig. 3 is a corner round being checked with the 90 degree concave radius form, and Fig. 4. shows the 180 degree radius form being used to check the radius of a hemisphere on the end of a cylindricaly shaped object.
Detailed Description This radius gauge is made from a flat sheet of corrosion-resistant steel cut in the shape of a right isosceles triangle as shown in Fig. 1.
with three separate radius forms, a 90 degree convex, a 90 degree concave and a 1 80 degree concave all cut at the areas shown in the figure. Both the concave and convex forms on any one gauge are of the same size radius. This radius gauge will be made to comply with acceptable industry standards and will bear a suitable non-glare finish.
A radius gauge comprising a single piece of metal made from a blank that is a right isosceles triangle with a formed concave radius a 90 degree arc located at and whose center is the apex, a 1 80 degree concave radius formed with its center on the base, and a 90 degree convex radius formed on one of the base angles such that the radius is tangent to the side: all of the said gauge forms being of the same size radius. The remaining base corner of the blank to be removed such that a hazardous point will not be present but that the function of the gauge will not be impaired.
