Description
SPECIFICATION
Machine for cutting off or planing off road surfaces
The invention relates to a machine for cutting off or planing off road surfaces, having a chassis with an independent drive motor, a steerable wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism and a cutting or planing device which is fixed in a vertically adjustable manner to the chassis, which cutting or planing device contains at least one planing or cutting tool.
For cutting off or planing off road surfaces, machines of the abovementioned type are known which are equipped with a planing or cutting tool which extends over an essential part of the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism. With such machines, road surfaces of the most varied materials can be cleanly removed to the required depth in a cost effective manner. Certain problems occur only in the area of the road edge, because here the righthand or the lefthand part of the machine has to travel on the road embankment. Moreover, the unevenness which is normally present in the road embankment leads to undesirable changes in the cutting depth. Similar problems occur when parking bays are arranged along the run of the road and at the same level as the road, or when the road has a curved run.
Although these disadvantages can be removed by a cutting or planing device being provided, the planing or cutting tool of which projects beyond the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism, these known machines have the disadvantage that, because of their overwidth, they can only be moved from one usage site to another with the special permission of the relevant authorities.
The latter also applies in the same way for another known machine in which the cutting or planing tool projects beyond the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism and is rotatably fixed to the chassis so that the planing or cutting tool, when the machine is moved from one usage site to another, can be swung into the machine surface terminated by the running mechanism.
Although this ensures that no parts of the cutting device project beyond the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism during the actual travelling operation, the chassis has to be designed disproportionately long so that the planing or cutting tool can swing into the space provided by the track width of the vehicle. The consequence of this is that the centre part of the machine moves out beyond the road centre even with small radii of curvature of the road.
These disadvantages of the known machines are to be removed by the invention. It is therefore the object of the invention to create a machine for cutting off or planing off road surfaces, with which machine road edges, curved road runs, parking bays and suchlike can be satisfactorily treated without difficulty, and which, moreover, is constructed in such a way that it can easily be moved from one usage site to another and in particular without special official permission.
Based on a machine of the generic type described at the beginning, this object is achieved according to the invention by the planing or cutting device comprising at least two planing or cutting tools arranged one behind the other in the direction of travel, of which at least one is designed in such a way that it can be displaced across the direction of travel.
This measure according to the invention allows a machine to be constructed in standard track width and length which can be driven from one usage site to another without difficulty and with retracted planing or cutting tools. During the planing or cutting operation, the displaceably arranged planing or cutting tool can remain so long in its retracted position until it is required for cutting off or planing off a road bend, a parking bay or suchlike. The planing or cutting tool is then moved out beyond the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism by a hydraulic or a pneumatic drive, and in fact as far as is necessary to carry out the cutting or planing work. But there is also the possibility, when treating a road having an essentially straight-running road edge, of using the displaceable planing or cutting tool in an extended position beyond the track width during the entire travelling operation. Because of the consequent increase in cutting width, the work can in certain circumstances be carried out quicker.
According to an advantageous embodiment, an axially fixed planing or cutting tool is available which extends at least over an essential part of the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism and which is arranged in front of the displaceable planing or cutting tool(s) as viewed in the direction of travel. Such an embodiment has the advantage that, when the planing or cutting tool is retracted, only the axially fixed planing or cutting tool is in operation. Moreover, favourable force relationships result which allow a relatively less costly attachment of the displaceable planing or cutting tool. A certain disadvantage is that conveying cut off or planed off material back towards the collecting devices arranged on the machine involves certain problems, especially when a cutting roller which rotates against the direction of travel is used as the cutting tool.
The last mentioned disadvantåge can be avoided by a preferred embodiment of the invention in which an axially fixed planing or cutting tool is available which extends at least over an essential part of the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism and which is arranged behind the displaceable planing or cutting tool(s) as viewed in the direction of travel. When a cutting roller which rotates against the direction of travel is used as the cutting tool, the axially fixed cutting tool takes over the conveyance of the trimmed material back towards a receiving device which directly adjoins the cutting tool and is intended for the cut off material over the entire track width. In this constructional embodiment, however, the forces acting on the displaceable planing or cutting tool are not insignificantly higher than in the previously described embodiment, which makes necessary special design measures for the attachment of the planing or cutting tool.
Nevertheless, this embodiment is to be preferred to the previously described embodiment, especially when the cutting rollers which rotate against the direction of travel can be used as cutting tools.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, a displaceable planing or cutting tool is available which extends over an essential part of the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism.
In the most favourable case, such a planing or cutting tool allows the planing or cutting width to be doubled, although with very unfavourable force relationships then occurring at the extended planing or cutting tool. The latter can be avoided by a displaceable planning or cutting tool being available which extends over approximately half of or less than half of the track width of the wheeled and/or tracked running mechanism. It is of advantage to arrange this displaceable planing or cutting tool in the righthand area of the chassis as viewed in the direction of travel, because it is primarily required on this side for planing off or cutting off curved road edges, parking bays or suchlike.
In a preferred embodiment, two displaceable planing or cutting tools are available which are arranged in an axially aligned manner next to one another. In this way, the track width, as in the previously described embodiment; can be almost doubled in the most favourable case, but substantially more favourable force relationships occur at the attachments of the cutting or planing tools.
Moreover, such an ambodiment allows a substantially more favourable and easier handling and adaption to the most varied planing or cutting tasks.
It has proved to be expedient to design the width of each of the two planing or cutting tools to be essentially the same size and to select the width in such a way that, when the planing or cutting tools are retracted, the overall clearance width of the two planing or cutting tools is at the most equal to the clearance width of the fixed planing or cutting tool. This ensures that the handling of the machine during the actual travelling operation is not adversely influenced by the cutting device.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the axially fixed planing or cutting tool on the one hand and the displaceable planing or cutting tool(s) on the other hand are vertically adjustable relative to one another. This allows cutting off or planing off of the road surface at depths which become smaller towards the road edge, which is often desirable to avoid damaging or destroying deeper layers of the road construction at the road edge.
It has proved to be particularly expedient to combine the axially fixed planing or cutting tool and each displaceable planing or cutting tool in a common holder which is fixed in a vertically adjustable manner to the chassis. In this way, a particularly compact machine construction can be achieved which improves the handling of the machine during the actual travelling operation. Moreover, this measure facilitates an optimum construction of the planing or cutting device with regard to the force relationships which occur. In a planing or cutting device with an axially fixed planing or cutting tool which, in the direction of travel, is arranged behind the displaceable planing or cutting tool(s), this can be realised by a boxlike holding fixture being allocated to each planing or cutting tool, in which holding fixture the planing or cutting tool is mounted, by the holding fixture allocated to the axially fixed planing or cutting tool being rigidly fixed to a support and by the holding fixtures allocated to the displaceable planing or cutting tools being displaceably fixed along the longitudinal axis to the support in such a way that the moveable holding fixtures, at their rear-sides, sit against the rigidly fixed holding fixture, and by the rigidly fixed holding fixture, on its side facing away from the other holding fixtures, supporting one part of a vertical-slide guidance system, the other part of which is rigidly connected to the chassis. In this connection, the moveable holding fixtures are therefore supported against the rigidly fixed holding fixture at least during the plan
ing or cutting operation, whereas the rigidly fixed holding fixture can be supported on the chassis by the vertical-slide guidance system.
The consequence is that comparatively less costly attachments can be used for the movea
ble holding fixtures.
So that the support does not stick when
moving, it is advisable to connect the support end which supports the moveable holding fixtures to the chassis via a vertical guide.
It has proved to be expedient to design the
sides of the moveable holding fixtures which
sit against the rigidly fixed holding fixture as
baffle plates which convey the cut off or
planed off material towards the track centre of the running mechanism. This ensures that the
material cut off or planed off by the moveable cutting or planing tools also reaches into the area of the machine devices which receive and convey away the material.
In a machine with cutting tools it is advisable for each cutting tool to be designed as a cutting roller, each of which is coupled to a hydrostatic drive. This can be accommodated in an axial recess of the roller.
The invention is described in greater detail with reference to the drawing, which shows an illustrative embodiment in partial schematic representation and wherein:
Figure 1 shows a side view of a machine for cutting off road surfaces, and
Figure 2 shows a plan view of the cutting device with extended cutting rollers.
The machine for cutting off road surfaces consists of a chassis 1 with a steerable front wheel pair 2 and a tracked running mechanism 4 which is accommodated in the rear part of the chassis 1 and driven by a diesel engine 3. In front of the diesel engine 3 is located the driver's compartment 5 with a driver's seat 6, a steering wheel 7 and control levers 8.
The cutting device 9 is arranged on the chassis 1 between the front wheel pair 2 and the trucked running mechanism 4.
The cutting device 9 consists of a framelike support 10 having a centre strut 11 with a mounting lug 1 2 on which the moveable part 1 3 of a hydraulic positioning cylinder 14 engages. The positioning cylinder 14 sits in a retaining frame 1 5 which is rigidly connected to the chassis 1.
The cutting device 9 comprises three cutting rollers 16, 17 and 18, of which the cutting roller 1 6 is arranged in an axially fixed manner and the cutting rollers 1 7 and 18 are arranged in an axially displaceable manner.
The axially fixed cutting roller 1 6 is mounted in two side support plates 1 9 and 20 which are volted or welded onto the support 10. The two side support plates 1 9 and 20 are connected to one another by a longitudinal strut 21 which can be designed as a wall. The side support plates 1 9 and 20 and the longitudinal strut 21 form a boxlike holding fixture 22 for the cutting roller 16.
Like the cutting roller 1 6 the cutting rollers 17 and 18 are each rotatably mounted in a boxlike holding fixture 23 or 24. Each of these holding fixtures 23 and 24 consists of two side support plates 25 and 26 or 27 and 28 which are connected to one another by longitudinal struts 29 and 30 or 31 and 32 which can be designed wall like. Each of the side support plates 25 to 28 is provided with two mounting lugs 33 in which guide bars 34 sit. The guide bars 34, in turn, each penetrate a mounting lug 35 sitting on the support 1 0.
The holding fixtures 23 and 24 are guided on the one hand by the guide bars 34 and the mounting lugs 35 and on the other hand by the longitudinal strut 21, against which the holding fixtures 23 and 24, by their longitudinal struts 30 and 32, can be supported in particular during the cutting operation.
The holding fixtures 23 and 24 with the cutting rollers 1 7 and 1 8 are displaced by two positioning cylinders 36 and 37 which are fixed on the centre strut 11 and are connected by their moveable part 38 or 39 to a side plate extension 40 or 41.
The cutting device 9 is also supported on the rear part of the retaining frame 1 5 by the support 10, at least during the cutting operation, with vertical-slide guidance systems 42 and 43 preventing the support 10 from coming away sideways out of the retaining frame 1 5. These vertical-slide guidance systems 42 and 43 each consists of two grooves 44 located in the retaining frame 15, into each of which grooves 44 engages a sliding element 45 fixed on the support 1 0.
Hydrostatic drives 46 are provided for driving cutting rollers 16, 17 and 18, which hydrostatic drives 46 are arranged in axial recesses of the cutting rollers.
Whereas in the embodiment described above the cutting device 9 is vertically adjusted by a single hydraulic positioning cylinder 14 which engages on a centre strut 11 by the mounting lug 12, it has proved to be expedient according to another advantageous embodiment of the present invention to arrange in a vertically adjustable manner the cutting unit consisting of three cutting rollers by two hydraulic positioning cylinders which are arranged next to one another as viewed in the direction of travel.
To prevent lateral swinging out, only one vertical-slide guidance system is expediently provided in this embodiment. A lateral inclination of the cutting-roller unit can then be achieved by different pressures being applied to the two positioning cylinders, by means of which cutting-roller unit cutting off to varying depths becomes possible.
