Abstract

A positioning sheet is used as a pattern for the exact mounting of film for the manufacture of printing plates for office offset machines. The existing variety of systems for register punching of the printing plates in the office offset sector makes an exact mounting of the printing format on the printing plate via the positioning sheet extremely difficult. In order to guarantee this in all cases, the positioning sheet has a quantity of different register punchings 5,6,7 from the different register punching systems common on the market on the right and left side of its front sheet edge. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Positioning-sheet pattern for mounting film in making office offset printing plates The invention comprises a positioning sheet suitable for use as a pattern for the mounting of film for the production of printing plates for small offset machines, i.e. office offset machines.
In the office offset machines used through the world pre-punched metal, plastics or paper printing foils (or plates) are commonly in use.
These "printing plates" are inserted in the cylinder duct of the plate cylinder in the machine, being as a rule attached at the beginning and end of the plates to a hook-bar so that they make good contact at the cylinder surface. The above-mentioned hook-bar is equipped with gripping lugs arranged next to each other, at regular intervals, which engage in corresponding rows of holes in the printing plate. There are different systems with respect to shape and arrangement of these rows of holes. The most common are: 1. Round hole (p4.5 mm with 12.5 mm distance between holes; 2. Round hole cup4.0 mm with 12.7 mm distance between holes, called "Pinbar"; and 3.Longitudinal hole 5.5 mm X 11.0 mm with 29.67 mm distance between holes, called '"Hookbar" A positioning sheet provided with the register punchings of one of the above-mentioned systems, on which the films to be printed are arranged in the appropriate position, is often used to make the printing plate itself. A mounting foil, where necessary also provided with these register punchings, is laid exactly on this positioning sheet to make the printing plate.
The individual films are then mounted on this printing plate according to the pattern indicated by the positioning plate below. After the films have been mounted, the mounting foil is brought into contact with the offset printing plate to be exposed so that a copy of the plate which is positionally exact as to register can be produced.
Difficulties arise notably in the exact manufacture of the printing plate by means of a positional sheet when taking into consideration the different possible register punchings of this printing plate, as those offering office offset machines of the format classification up to approximately DIN "A3" have all decided for the most part on one of the systems for register punchings for the printing plate.
The printing machine admittedly has all the facilities which one needs to correct in outline and side register a printing format arranged inexactly on the printing shape, but it is of considerable advantage (time-saving in setting up the machine, low paper waste) if the printing format is arranged exactly on the printing plate.
On this basis, it is an object of the present invention to provide a positioning sheet for making the printing plate, so designed that exact mounting of the printing format on the printing shape can be made possible, taking into consideration the existing variety of systems for register punchings.
This object is attained in accordance with the present invention by the provision of a positioning sheet as defined in claim 1, below.
One embodiment of the positioning sheet is represented in the accompanying diagrammatic drawing, in which the single Figure is a fragmentary plan view of the sheet.
The figure shows that area of a positioning sheet 2, suitable for use as a pattern for mounting films, which presents the front edge 1; films 3, 4 and 9 are arranged in appropriate positions as shown. Taking into consideration the standardized dimensions and distances between the individual register punchings of the systems already mentioned in the introductory description, the positioning sheet 2 is equipped with those register punchings 5, 6 (Pinbar) and 7 (Hookbar) which can be used optionally and in accordance with the register punchings of printing plates and mounting foils. The register punchings 5, 6 and 7 arranged in the region of the sheet's front edge 1 on its right and left sides are arranged axially symmetrically with respect to the central line 8 of the positioning sheet.

Claims (4)

1. Positioning sheet suitable for use as a pattern for the mounting of film for making printing plates for office offset machines, which positioning sheet (2) has a plurality of different register punchings (5, 6, 7), conforming with different register punching systems employed in the art, on each of the right and left sides of its front edge (1).
2. Positioning sheet according to claim 1, wherein the register punchings on the said right and left sides (5, 6, 7) are arranged axially symmetrically with respect to the central line of the positioning sheet (8).
3. Positioning sheet according to claim 1 or 2, wherein there are three register punchings on each of the right and left sides of the front edge (1) of the sheet, with the following dimensions: round hole f = 4.5 (5); round hole f = 4.0 mm ("Pinbar") (6); and longitudinal hole 5.5 mm X 11.0 mm ("Hookbar") (7).
4. Positioning sheet according to claim 1, substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
