Abstract
A notice board system (3) comprises a display portion (4) and a support portion (5). The support portion (5) is adapted to be secured between a frame (1) and a window (2) when the window is shut. The notice board system may be conveniently attached to any type of existing window, the display portion (4) being arranged vertically and perpendicular to the plane of the window so as to be clearly visible, and resistant to vandalism and theft. The support portion (5) may be formed integrally with the display portion (4) in which case a plastics section (7) may be inserted between the window frame (1) and a bent portion (6) of the support portion (5). If the support portion is formed separately it may be attached to the display portion by nuts and bolts, and the support portion may comprise a plastics portion and an aluminium part attached together via an intermediate portion (Fig. 3). <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A notice board system
This invention relates to a notice board system.
The erection of temporary notice boards, for example "For Sale" signs, presents known problems. For instance, known notice boards are generally mounted on a wooden or metal post, and located in a front garden of a house so as to be clearly visible to a passer-by. However, many houses do not have convenient, clearly visible, locations for such notice boards, and, further, such notice boards are easily defaced or removed by vandals.
According to the present invention, there is provided a notice board system comprising a display portion, and a support portion adapted to support the display portion, the support portion being such that it may be gripped between a stationary window frame and a movable window when the window is shut, whereby, when the support portion is so gripped, the display portion extends in a vertical plane perpendicular to the plane of the window.
In one embodiment of the prsent invention the support portion and the display portion are integral.
In another embodiment of the present invention the support portion comprises a first part adapted to be gripped between the window and the frame, and a second part adapted to support the display portion.
The second part may be integral with the display portion, or it may comprise a separate member.
The present invention thus provides a notice board system which can be conveniently secured between windows and their frames, such that a notice board may be displayed in such a manner as to be clearly visible to a passer-by, and resistant to vandalism or theft. The notice board system of the present invention is particularly useful for securing notice boards to close-packed dwellings which do not have front gardens or the like in which to located a conventional notice board, and can be secured to the window on the first floor (united Kingdom usage) of a building.
For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic partial perspective view of a notice board system in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention;
Figure 2 is a view looking in the direction of arrow A in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section through a notice board system according to another embodiment of the present invention, shown in use;
Figure 4 is a side view of the system of Figure 3, looking in the direction or arrow B.
Figure 5 is a section showing partially a notice board system adapted to be secured in a sash window; and
Figure 6 is a plan view looking in the direction of arrow C in Figure 5.
Figures 1 and 2 show a window frame 1, and a timber glass-holding portion defining a window 2, the frame 1 and the window 2 being of the type wherein the window 2 pivots about a hinge (not shown in the drawings) so as to open laterally. A notice board 3, for example a "For Sale" sign comprises a display portion 4, and a support portion 5 which is gripped between the frame 1 and the window 2. In Figure 1, the display portion 4 and the support portion 5 are integral with each other, the whole notice board 3 having been formed by bending a piece of, for example, aluminium. The proximal bent portion 6 of the notice board 3 ensures that the display portion 4 is held firmly in a vertical position, perpendicular to the plane of the glass in the window 2.A preformed plastic section 7 is inserted between the frame 1 and the aluminium portion 6 to ensure attachment of the notice board 3 between the window 2 and the frame 1 when the window is closed.
Figures 3 and 4 illustrate another embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the support portion 5 comprises a preformed plastic part 5a which is gripped between the frame 1 and the window 2 (not shown in Figures 3 and 4), and a support part 5b, formed of, for example, aluminium.
The support part 5b is formed of, for example, 5mm section aluminium and comprises two cooperating members each of which abuts a respective face of the display portion 4 of the notice board 3. A nut 8 and a bolt 9 are used to secure the two cooperating members of the support part 5b of the display portion 4 of the notice board 3. A fixing rivet 10 is used to attach the plastic portion 5a, via an intermediate piece 11, to the aluminium supporting portion 5b. The embodiment shown in Figures 3 and 4 has the advantage that the support portion 5 may be used to hold a display portion 4 in the form of a conventional notice board, whereas the embodiment shown in Figure 1 and 2 necessitates the manufacture of new, modified boards.
Figures 5 and 6 show a notice board suitable for attachment to a vertically opening sash window. The system comprises a display portion 14 and a support portion 15 comprising a support part 1 sub and a component 1 5a suitable for gripping between the window 12 and the frame (not shown). The component 1 spa is of preformed aluminium, and the support part 15b is formed of T-section aluminium adapted to receive the display portion 14. The support part 1 sub is secured to the display portion 14 by means of nut and bolt arrangements 19, and to the component 1 spa by means of a bolt 20. A securing bolt 21 secures aluminium struts 22 to the support part 15b. The struts 22 may be made of 'L' or'T' section aluminium. A further securing bolt 23 secures the compo nent 15a to the frame 11.
It will be appreciated that, in place of the supporting portion 5, shown in the drawings, it would be possible to have a strong cloth gripped by the frame 1 and the window 2, with a T-section providing the necessary rigidity to support a display portion 4.
In addition to the embodiments of the present invention hereinbefore described, the present invention is equally applicable to horizontally pivoting windows.
