Abstract

A wage envelope assembly to receive both notes and coins includes an area of adhesive 11 joining the front 3 and rear 2 parts of the envelope compartment and spaced from the bottom of the compartment, which adhesive serves as a stop to locate the leading edge of a note or notes positioned in the compartment but permits coins to be passed towards the bottom of the compartment. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in wage envelope assembles This invention has reference to Wage Envelope Assemblies. It has been known for employees to receive their wages together with a wages slip (giving details of the employees wages together with deductions, bonuses, final payment etc) contained in a wage envelope.
Such wage envelopes sometimes contain a compartment of a suitable size to contain bank notes and the envelope has a printed surface on which details of the wages etc can be recorded.
It is also known to provide a stationery assembly of continuous envelopes which assembly is processed by a data processing machine and this consists of a compartment for bank notes and a surface to receive details of the wages.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved wage envelope assembly construction.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide an improved wage envelope assembly in which the note and coin content of the wages can be checked against the details of wages printed on the envelope and in which it is difficult for the coins of the wages to fall out of the envelope.
According to the present invention a wage envelope assembly comprises a compartment to receive the wages of an employee and which envelope assembly is provided with an area of adhesive joining the inner faces of the front and rear parts of the envelope compartment and spaced from the bottom of the compartment and which adhesive serves as a stop to locate the leading edge of a note or notes positioned in the compartment but permits coins to be passed towards the bottom of the compartment.
Preferably a line of perforations is provided adjacent the turn over flap of the envelope to permit the envelope to be partly opened to enable the notes contained in the envelope to be inspected without fully opening the envelope.
Conveniently the envelope assembly has one of its parts of transparent or transluscent material in order that the number of coins in the envelope can be ascertained.
A wage envelope assembly in accordance with the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a front view of a single wage envelope of a wage envelope assembly, Figure 2 is a cross sectional view of the envelope taken on the line ll-ll Fig. 1, and Figure 3 is a view of the envelope shown in Fig. 1 containing both notes and coins in the enclosed position. As shown in Fig. 1 a single wage envelope 1 of a wage envelope assembly comprises a back sheet 2 of heavy guage paper and a front sheet 3 of transluscent or transparent paper. The back sheet and front sheet are respectively part of a continuous back web and front web as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The respective back and front webs are divided into back and front sheets defining individual envelopes by transverse tear off perforations. The back and front sheets of each envelope are secured together by transverse lines of adhesive 4 and a longitudinal line 5 of adhesive which line 5 defines the bottom 6 of the wage envelope compartment. Likewise the wage envelope compartment has its side edges defined by the transverse lines of adhesive 4.
The back sheet 2 has a width greater than the width of the front sheet 3 and a line of longitudinal fold perforations 7 are provided in the front sheet 3 and a line of longitudinal perforations are provided in the back sheet 2 in register with the longitudinal perforations in the front sheet 3. These lines of longitidunal perforations provide a fold line about which the back and front sheets may be folded, the folded parts constituting an envelope flap part. A further longitudinally extending line of perforations 8 is provided in the back sheet a short distance beyond the outer edge of the front sheet. This line 8 of perforations extends from one edge of the sheet part way along the envelope to enable the notes in the envelope to be inspected as will be hereinafter described. In an envelope having a length of 5 inches (12.7 cms) the line of perforations extends for a distance of about one third of the length of the envelope (about 4.2 cms).
A line of adhesive 9 is provided extending longitudinally across the length of the envelope on the front sheet 3 and this line of adhesive is covered by a barrier sheet 10. The line of adhesive is positioned to be engaged by the end of the back sheet (constituting an envelope flap) when it is folded about the line of perforations 7.
The back sheet 2 and front sheet 3 secured together by the lines of adhesive 4 and 5 constitute a compartment to receive wages earned by an employee including both bank notes and coins. As described such a compartment has a width of about 5 inches (12.7 cms) and a depth of 9 inches (22.8 cms). At a position about six inches from the mouth of the compartment and at a point mid way between the top and bottom of the compartment an area of adhesive 11 is applied between the inner faces of the rear sheet and front sheet. This area 11 of adhesive is preferably of triangular shape with the apex of the triangle located towards the mouth of the compartment. This area of adhesive serves to locate bank notes loaded into the compartment but to permit coins to pass on either side of the area adhesive into the lower part of the compartment.
The envelope assembly is provided with marginal feed apertures 1 2 to facilitate feeding the assembly through a print unit or the like.
The envelope has printing matter applied to the outer face of the back sheet in order that information about the employees wages may be applied to the back sheets of the respective envelope lengths as the wage envelope assembly is passed through a print unit or the like.
When a wage envelope assembly as described is to be used for wages applications a web of envelopes as hereinbefore described is passed through a print unit for example forming part of a computer system when details of an employees wages are printed on an outer face of a back sheet of a respective envelope of the assembly. The assembly is subsequently divided into envelope lengths as by a burter' and the wages are received in the envelope compartments corresponding to the amounts printed on the envelope. The coins C (Fig. 3) of the wage are inserted first and pass on one side or the other of the adhesive area 11 into the bottom 6 of the envelope compartment furthest from the mouth, as shown in Fig. 3. Later bank notes N (Fig. 3) are inserted into the envelope compartment. The notes N are located in the compartment when the edges of the notes engage the adhesive area 11. When all the coins C and notes N are inseted into the compartment the part of the back sheet 3 and the smaller part of the front sheet are folded about the line of perforations 7 also the barrier sheet is removed so that the envelope flap can be secured to the compartment as shown in Fig. 3. It is apparent that the notes in the compartment are folded over underneath the flap. The envelopes containing the wages are distributed to the respective employees. The employee is able to check the wages in the envelope without opening the envelope. The coins C may be checked by viewing them through the transluscent sheet and if necessary confirming the coins by feel. The notes N on the other hand may be checked by tearing along the line of perforations 8 to reveal the notes where the perforation line is separated.
It will be apparent that as the notes N are inserted into the compartment after the coins C such notes serve as a barrier to prevent the coins falling out of the compartment.
In a modification the area of adhesive is positioned partly on one side of the compartment as shown at 11 a on Fig. 3 rather than centrally of the compartment as shown at 11 or may be at one side only of the compartment in which case it is preferred that such areas extend into the compartment further than the areas 1 1a shown in Fig. 3.
Furthermore the areas of adhesive 11 or 11 a may be of circular or rectangular shape rather than triangular. In addition it is envisaged that the area of adhesive may be in more than one position that is with circular, triangular and rectangular parts arranged one above the other.
