Abstract

The clamp of flexible material, comprises an elongate band having a hook at one end engageable with a radially- projecting lug at or near the other end. Various forms of hook and lug are disclosed. The clamp may be strengthened by circumferentially extending raised ribs. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION New type of hose clip 1) This invention relates to a clip for fastening around hoses tubes and cables etc.
2) There are many types ofclipsforfastening around hoses tubes or cables in which powders, liquids, or gases or wires and ropes are contained, and around which a clip has to be fastened to prevent leakage or spillage, orto hold the contents when joining on to a further component such as a valve, tap, flange or other mechanical hydraulic or electrical fitting. There are many varieties of hose clips of which the most popular is the worm drive hose clip. This is made ofthree parts, a screw, a housing and athreaded band. The screw is located in the housing seated in the threaded band such that the other end of the strip can be turned through between the screw and the band when the screw is turned clockwise. However these clips are relatively expensive to make because there are three components to make and fittogether.
3) According to the present invention a clip can be made from a single piece of strip so shaped. That it can be formed in metal, plastic nylon ora non-metallic textile material which fits around an oval or circular form such as a tube on a fitting or a flange and holds that tube satisfactorily under pressure without leaking or spillage.
The clip is constructed so that the strip fits around the tube and is locked over a vertical member shaped out ofthe strip. The other end of the strip is shaped so that it hooks over the vertical leg when a pair of end pincers are used to close the clip.
Figure 1 shows the construction of the clip closed.
Figure 2 shows the clip open.
Figure 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, shows the various forms of vertical leg or ear over which the hook fastens to tighten the clip.
Figure 4 shows the adjustment if required when an open lug or ear is employed which gives a wider range of fastening to the clip.
Figure 5 shows an addition of a thread pressed or cut into thetail of the clip and afurtherthread pressed or cut behind the hook which meshes or sits on the teeth or protrusions on the tail.

Claims (13)

1. A clip which can be usedon hoses and tubes with equal resistance to leakage under pressure to worm drive hose clips.
2. A clip which can befitted quickly and correctly by means of special pincers.
3. A clip which can be fastened by means of a hooked end over an angular or vertical ear or lug.
4. A clip which can be unfastened by means of lifting the hooked end back over the vertical leg or ear.
5. A clip which is strengthened at the hooked end by means of a corrugation pressed into the length and in the centre of the strip.
6. A clip made in steel and heat treated or quenched to give springiness and/or strength to the clip.
7. A clip made in steel work hardened in the process of manufactureto give springiness and strength in addition to the normal strength.
8. A clip made in plastic, nylon or textile or aluminium or a non-ferrous metal which can be fabricated or constructed in the manner shown in figures 1 and 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d or 5.
9. A clip which is fastened by means of a hooked end.
10. A clip having a vertical angular leg or oblong, square, oval orcircularshaped ear which can be formed to receive the hooked end to lock orfasten the clip.
11. A clip which has a small wire or plastictubeor rod section at the head of the leg, or in the circular or oval leg to prevent the material weakening or cracking when formed over or into the required shape.
12. A clip which has a thread or recesses pressed into the tail ofthe clip beyond the vertical leg. This meshes or fits into a thread, protrusion, spigot or spigots below the vertical leg of the hook enabling the strips to mesh orfittogether giving greater grip and taking tension loads from the hook. This is particularly important on the larger sizes of 25m/m diameter and above.
13. A clip which has an Acme or buttress thread which meshes to locktheclip and reducethe loadfrom the hook end fastening.
