Abstract
A device for printing numbering applicable to offset type machines 2 having horizontal cylinders comprising a unit constituted by a first, stationary, member 3 fast to one side of the offset machine and a second member 4, hinged at 5, to said first member. A shaft 10 is carried on shoulders 21 of said second member 4 on which supports 18 carrying at least one numbering wheel 19 are associated. The driving means for said first shaft 10 comprises a second shaft engageable to said first shaft through coupling means 9',9'' and driven by motor means of the offset machine. <IMAGE>

SPECIFICATION
A device for printing numbering applicable to offset type machines having horizontal cylinders
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a device for printing numbering applicable to offset type machines having horizontal cylinders.
With the conventional horizontal type cylinder offset machines it's not actually possible to print numbered forms. The numbering of forms is only possible by using particular and complicated offset machines which are so conceived to number forms previously printed by the same machine. Said conventional machines are very expensive and not suitable for the majority of small artisans working in the field.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
An object of the invention is to provide a device for printing numbering applicable to offset type machines having horizontal cylinders which machines, for their own structure, would not be able to print numbered forms.
The device according to the invention comprises a unit for printing progressive/regressive numbering carried by a pair of shoulders, said unit being associable in a synchronous manner to an offset type machine having horizontal cylinders.
The novel features which are considered as characteristic. of the invention are set forth in particular in the appended claims. The device itself, however, both as to its construction and its mode of operation, together with additional features and advantages thereof, will be best understood upon perusal of the following description of a specific embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic side elevation view of an offset machine having applied thereon the device according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a diagrammatic front elevation view of an offset machine with the device in an operating position; and
Figure 3 is a diagrammatic front elevation view of an offset machine with the device in a non-operating position.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODI
MENT
With reference to the figures, the numbering device 1 is mounted onto a conventional offset machine 2 having horizontal cylinders.
The device 1 comprises two members 3 and 4 of which the first member 3 is fast to a side of the machine 2 while the second member 4 rotates relative to said first member 3 through a hinge element 5 interposed between said two members.
The stationary member 3 constitutes the supporting element for a shaft 6 on the first end 7 of which a gear 8 is keyed while in the second end of the same shaft 6 a male element 9' of a coupling is provided adapted to engage, with device 1 in the operating position, a female element 9" of the same coupling which is keyed on a shaft 10 carried by the rotatable member 4 of the device 1.
The shaft 6 is supported on the side close to the male element 9' of the coupling by an eccentric bushing 11 rotatable relative to its supporting seat 1 2 by means of an hydraulic piston 1 3. The rotatable member 4 of the device 1 is laterally delimited by shoulders 21 and the ends of the shaft 10 carry two eccentric bushings 14 and 1 5 rotatably controlled by hydraulic pistons 1 6 and 1 7 in synchronism with the piston 1 3 carried by the stationary member 3. This construction allows to control the eccentricity of the bushings 11, 14 and 1 5 in order to keep the shafts 10 and 6, with device 1 in the operating position, coaxially disposed.
Semicircular supports 1 8 each carrying a conventional rotative counter 1 9 are mounted on the shaft 10. In the embodiment shown said supports 1 8 are only two but their number can be changed according to necessity.
A stationary bar 20 supported by the shoulders 21 is provided parallel to the shaft 10 and said bar has cams 22 adapted to cooperate with advancing pins 23 of the counters 19.
Above and parallel to the shaft 10, also supported by the shoulders 21, an assembly generically indicated with 29 is provided, said assembly comprising a duct cylinder 24, a scraper element 25, a grinding cylinder 26, a rocking cylinder 27 and a pair of inking cylinders 28.
OPERATION
When not in operation the device 1 is positioned as above in Fig. 3, i.e. rotated open about the hinge 5 so as to have the male and female elements 9' and 9', of the coupling disengaged. For putting the device in the operating position (Figs. 1 and 2) the member 3 is rotated about the hinge 5 and the elements 9' and 9" engaged.
By actuating the pistons 13, 1 6 and 1 7 the eccentricity of the bushings 11, 1 4 and 1 5 will allow the shaft 10 to shift its axis of an amount 'd' thus allowing the gear 8 to properly engage a driving gear 30 making part of the offset machine 2 to transmit through shaft 10 the movement to other elements of the device. The semicircular supports 18, in particular, will rotate the counters 1 9 along a trajectory 31 which is tangent to the inking cylinders 28 and to a printing cylinder 30' of the offset machine 2. The cylinders 28 will transfer ink to the counters 1 9 which will print the numerical characters onto a virgin sheet carried by the cylinder 30'. The sheet is then conventionally printed by the machine 2 and the counters 1 9 at the completion of the trajectory 31 will predispose themselves for printing the text numerical character due to co-operation of their advancing pins 23 with the cams 22.
The semicircular supports 1 8 may of course be used for carrying, instead of the counters 19, for instance conventional perforators without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Claims (4)
1. A device for printing numbering applicable to an offset type machine having horizontal cylinders comprising:
a first stationary member fast to one side of said offset machine;
a second rotatable member having shoulders of which one is hinged to said first stationary member;
a first shaft carried on said shoulders of said second rotatable member;
at least one support keyed to said first shaft carrying a counter;
a stationary bar parallel to said first shaft carried by said second rotatable element and having cams adapted to co-operate with said counters; and
driving means for driving said first shaft.
2. A deice according to Claim 1, wherein said drive means comprises a second shaft carried by said first stationary member, said second shaft being driven by motor means of said offset machine.
3. A device according to Claim 2, wherein said second shaft is engageable to said first shaft through coupling means.
4. A device according to Claim 3, wherein said first and second shafts are provided with eccentric bushings and means for controlling said bushings.
