Abstract

The door release system consists of a small press button panel 24 which is fixed at latch height on a door or door frame. It has a lead 34 which connects the three buttons on 24 to a control box 33. By pressing the buttons in the correct order and number of times, the combination of which is set by links 14 15 16 17 and semiconductors on the printed circuit board 25 inside box 33, will allow the door to be released, for a few seconds from the restraints of the lock. This is achieved by the operation of an electric striking plate unit being energised via lead 35 The door release system is designed to run off either battery, bell transformer or its own power supply via a mains outlet as shown by lead 36 to power unit 23. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Electronic door release This invention relates to a programmeable combination electronic door release There are many combination door locks and mechanisms for releaseing doors which can be mechanical or electronic with a push button key pad. The mechanical type usually release the lock itself and the electronic models release at the strikeing plate on door frame.
In general the key pad type can be unsightly and costly due to the many push buttons half of which are not in use for any one combination set.
According to the present invention, there is an electronic door release consisting of three buttons on a square or round panel fixed at latch hight on a door or door frame. Four insulated single wires in a single sheath run from this panel to a control box. The control box may receive its electric operating power from either a battery, bell transformer or its own power supply via a sutable mains outlet.
Within the box is a printed circuit board which, outher than its semiconductors etc., has four sets of link terminals A, B, C and D, each set is numbered from 1 to 9., these enable the user to link in by means of shorting links any desired four figure combination, other than zero.
Assuming the control buttons are now operated and the correct combination is sensed by the control box. The box will cause, via two single sheathed wires, a sandard type electric striking plate release unit on the door frame to energise. The door will now be released from the lock and stay released for approximatly 5 to 7 seconds then reset, thus secureing the door, when the door is closed.
A specific embodiment of the invention by way of detaled circuits and accompanying drawings will now be given: Figure 1 shows the wireing run of the compleate assembly.
Figure 2 illustrates links on the printed circuit board in the control box by which the combination is set.
Figure 3 shows the compleat electric .l cir- cuit in the form of a block schematic.
Figure 4 shows the combination latching circuit which is in the form of of an integrated logic circuit.
Referring to Fig. 1, 24 is a panel consisting of three press buttons that can be fixed to a door or door frame, it is connected to the control box 33 by a lead 34. Within the control box 33 is a printed circuit board 25, this board holds the main circuitry for the compleate release assembly. 32 is a strikeing plate electric release unit which is energised via lead 35 from the control box 33. The control box 33 receives its power from unit 23 via lead 36.
In order to program the unit to the desired combination Fig. 2 shows four sets of nine link terminals 14, 15, 16, 1 7. The order of linking is as follows: 1 5 is the first digit 1 7 is the second digit 14 is the third digit 16 is the forth digit The links are seen linked at present, by way of example, to give a combination of 2468.
The printed circuit board 25 is shown in Fig. 3 with its componant parts illustrated in the form of blocks. The power for 25 comes from power supply 23 into the board 25 and from the voltage regulator 26 supplies the compleat assembly. The push buttons on panel 24 are connected to 26 so that when actuated send a positive voltage to their respective terminations 27, 28, 29 these circuts produce a clean pulse free from contact bounce to trigger 30. When 30 has senced that the correct combination has been registered it triggers 31 which is a monostable/driver and in turn energises the strikeing plate electric release 32 for approximately 5 to 7 second, during which time the door is free from the constraints of the lock.
In Fig. 4 the combination latching circuit 30 is explaned in depth. When the bottom button on panel 24 is pressed the counters 10, 11, 12, and 13 are cleared by a pulse from 29 arriving on 9. When the top left button on panel 24 is pressed a number of times the resulting pulses will ,be sent to 2, pass through gate 6 and step counter 11, if the the link set on 1 5 corrisponds to the stepped position of the counter 11 then a logic high will be sent to 1 8. When the top right button on panel 24 is pressed a number of times the resulting pulses will be sent to 4, pass through gate 8 and step counter 13, if the link set on 1 7 corrisponds to the stepped position of the counter 1 3 then a logic high will be sent to 18,5, and 1.When the top left button on panel 24 is pressed a number of times the resulting pulses will be sent to 2, pass through gate 5, as 6 is now inhibited, and step counter 10, if the link set on 14 corrisponds to the stepped position of 10, then a logic high will be sent to 18, 7, and 3.
Gate 1 9 inverts the signal from 1 8 sending a logic high to 21. When the top right button on panel 24 is pressed a number of times the resulting pulses will be sent to 4, pass through gate 7, as 8 is now inhibited, and step counter 12, if the link set on 1 6 corrisponds to the stepped position of the counter 12, then a logic high will be sent to 21.
If now the bottom button on 24 is pressed, a further high will be sent to 21 via 20 which enableing 21, will send a pulse through 22 to trigger 31, also a pulse being sent via 9 to reset counters 10, 11, 12, and 1 3. The strikeing plate electric release 32 now being operated.
It follows, if the criteria is not met by the person operating the buttons on panel 24, the strikeing plate electric unit will not be energised and the door will remain held under the control of the normal lock.
The electronic parts used in Fig. 4 are as follows: 1, 5, 6 is an intergrated circuit quad 2input nand gate type CMOS 4011 BE.
3, 7, 8 is an intergrated circuit quad 2input nand gate type CMOS 4011 BE.
10, 11, 12, 13 are four intergrated circuit decade counter deviders with ten decoded outputs, type CMOS 4017BE.
18, 19, 21 is a intergrated circuit triple 3input nand gate type CMOS 4023BE.
14, 15, 16, 1 7 are any suitable terminals that will solder through the printed circuit board and linked by press fit shunts.

CLAIMS New claims or amendments to claims filed on 5 Jan 84.
Superceded claim 1.
New or amended claims.
1. An electronic door release consisting of three push buttons on a square or round panel fixed at latch hight on a door or door frame. The push buttons have only to be normal push to make, release to break type, as thay have to supply a positive voltage for the duration of time pressure is applied to the particular button. As each push button has to receive a positive supply voltage from the voltage regulator it follows that the contact on one side of each button is commoned, hence the use of 4 wires in total, three signal wires, one to each button and one common positive voltage wire to all buttons. Four insulated single wires in a single sheath run from this panel to a control box. The control box may receive its electric operating power from either a battery, bell transformer or its own power supply via a sutable mains outlet. Within the box is a printed circuit board which, outher than its semiconductors etc., has four sets of link terminals A, B, C and D each set is numbered from 1 to 9., these enable the user to link in by means of shorting links any desired four figure combination, other than zero. Assuming the control buttons are now operated and the correct combination is sensed by the control box. The box will cause, via two single sheathed wires, a standard electric release unit on the door frame, to energise. The door will now be released from the lock and stay released for approximatly 5 to 7 seconds then reset, thus secureing the door, when the door is closed.
