Abstract

Preparation to prevent falling hair contains 2-Phenoxyethanol or its chemical derivatives. and optionally 3-phenoxy-1-propanol, and may be in the form of a solution, shampoo or ointment.

Description

SPECIFICATION Preparation to prevent falling hair the basis of which is 2-phenoxyethanol Falling hair is a serious and frequent occurrence in both men and women and constitutes a well-known problem.
This condition is attributed to a wide number of causes and, over time, a great many products of the most diverse kinds have been put on sale for application to the scalp.
Attempts have also been made to use special physico-chemical action such as massage, stimulation of the scalp by liquid or gaseous means, by suction and force pumps, by a wide variety of irradiations as well as numerous other methods suggested by doctors, hygienists and herbalists.
Unfortunately results have been, and still are, disappointing since, apart from special cases, appreciable improvements have not been achieved.
The above invention solves the problem, stops the hair from falling and even causes it to grow again as will be here explained.
It is well known that the most common cause of loss of hair both in men and women is the action of 5-Dihydrotestosterone in the seborrhoic areas of the scalp since this substance provokes excessive output from the sebaceous glands.
These glands transform the Beta Carotene into vitamin A. As already known, and as can easily be checked, assimilation by the body of an excessive quantity of this vitamin causes breakage of the cellular lissosomes thereby releasing proteolytic enzymes which are just the ones that damage the hair.
One of these enzymes is chymotrypsin.
Proof that chymotrypsin causes the hair to fall out is given by the fact that if someone afflicted by falling hair undergoes treatment with anti-histamines, which have an inhibiting effect on chrmotrypsin and similar enzymes, it will be found that their hair stops falling.
As 2-Phenoxyethanol is a well-known and highly specific inhibitor of the above enzymes, including chymotrypsin, research and experiments have been conducted the results of which have led to the discovery that preparations based on 2-Phenoxyethanol actually do stop the condition of falling hair.
The invention subject of this present application is a preparation the basis of which is 2 Phenoxyethanol and its chemical derivatives.
By inhibiting production of chymotrypsin in particular, this substance avoids the effects of an excess of vitamin A produced by the sebaceous glands under the action of 5-Dihydrotestosterone.
3-Phenyl-1-propanol is preferably associated to 2-Phenoxyethanol because of its action against dandruff.
2-Phenoxyethanol, by itself or associated with 3-Phenyl-1-propanol, is prepared in an aqueous, alcoholic or hydroalcoholic solution preferably at the concentration of 0.5-1%.
In other types of executions, 2-Phenoxyethanol, alone or associated with 3-Phenyl-1propanol, is prepared either in a solution of glycols, or of glycols with water, or of glycols with alcohol, or in glycerine.
According to the type of execution the preparation is made available in the form of a lotion, adding ethanol to the solution at various concentrations, but preferably in the concentrations of 10-20% or else in the form of a shampoo utilizing any ordinary kind of hair shampoo, or again as an ointment.
As 2-Phenoxyethanol is perfectly stable it can be added to the usual preparations for hair such as those based on Keratin, vitamins, aminoacids and others, as well as to vegetable extracts or preparations.
By applying the preparation every night to that part of the head where the hair is falling out, after about twenty days, or even earlier, the hair will stop falling. Following this period it will be enough to apply it once or twice a week to prevent the hair from starting to fall again.
If applied to the scalp for a longer time it will be found that the hair begins to grow once more.
As the applications of the invention have been described as examples, in no way limiting its uses to these, it is understood that any equivalent application of the inventive concepts explained and any product executed and/or in operation according to the characteristics of the invention will be included in its field of protection.
