Cutting glass.-Apparatus for severing glass cane or tube comprises a motor-driven cutter mounted on a frame pivotally connected to each of two discs rotating in unison. The glass 10 is fed into the machine by chains 11 and is carried past guides 48, 49 to the cutting position. The disc cutter 28 is driven directly from an electromotor 27 mounted on a frame 26 pivoted on upstanding pins on discs 25, 23 which rotate in the same direction. An anvil 32, Fig. 6, is advanced to press the tubing &c. against the cutter 28 by a cam on the frame 26 which actuates a slide 35 connected to the anvil, by adjusting screws 36, 45 and a link 40, pivoted on a pin 41 to the fixed frame. After scoring the glass is broken by a spring-urged adjustable cracking-lever 52, 53 pivoted on a pin 51 and actuated by an arm 54 mounted rigidly on the frame. Two sprockets supporting the tractor chains are driven through gearing from an electromotor 17 which also drives the toothed disc 23 geared through an idler 23<1> to the disc 25. In operation the glass is continuously fed by the chain 11 and is supported by the anvil while scored by the rotating cutter, which moves along axially with the glass and also through the path of the latter. The cracking- lever then severs the glass which rolls down a delivery shoot 57. In a modification specially adapted for severing cane glass, the frame 26 carries a spring-urged striker which is cocked and released for dividing the cane by a stationary cam.
