Abstract

In order to guide and support a tentering frame chain, a substantially box-shaped profile is provided comprising a U-shaped profile part 1 and an angular profile part 5. A web 2 of the U-shaped profile part 1 is longer than a limb 8 of the angular profile part 5 so that an elongate slot 9 remains open. The web 2 and a limb 3 of the U-shaped profile part 1 and the limb 8 of the angular profile part 5 are provided on their inner surfaces with respective sliders 11. These are held in C-shaped plate profiles 13 and can be installed and from the ends of the profile. Because of the arrangement of the sliders 11 on three insides of the box-shaped profile, the chain is supported horizontally for the assimilation of the weight of the chain as well as vertically against widthwise pull of a goods web, irrespective of a chain reversal in the perpendicular or horizontal plane. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A profile for guidance and support of a tentering frame chain This invention relates to a profile for guidance and support of a tentering frame chain.
Profiles for this purpose are known which consist of a U-shaped part which is equipped with respective sliders on the inside of one limb and on the inside of a web connecting the two limbs.
The profile acts as guide rails for tentering frame chains. Because of the design of the profile and the preset arrangement of the sliders, endlessly revolving tentering frame chains can be deflected only in a horizontal plane. The aforementioned profiles are unsuittable for tentering frame chains which are to be deflected in a vertical plane, because they cannot offer any vertical support for the lower returning chain strand. Accordingly, depending on the required chain deflection in the horizontal or in the vertical plane, the guide rails have until now had to be formed from appropriately different profiles.
The object of the invention is to provide a profile modified from the kind described above such that it can be used for guiding and supporting a tentering frame chain even when the chain is deflected in a vertical plane.
With this object in view, the present invention provides a profile for guidance and support of a tentering frame chain consisting of a U-shaped profile part which is equipped with respective sliders on the inside of one limb and on the inside of a web connecting the two limbs, characterised in that an angular profile part is releasably fastened to the other limb of the U-shaped profile part (which does not have a slider mounted thereon) in such a way that a limb of the angular profile part, which is shorter than the web of the U-shaped profile part, is arranged at a spacing parallel to the web of the U-shaped profile part, and is equipped with a slider which lies opposite the slider arranged on the web.
As a result of supplementing the U-shaped profile part by an angular profile part, the known trough-shaped profile is completed into a box-shaped profile with an elongated slot.
Thus an arrangement of sliders on the inner surfaces of three sides of the profile is possible so that the tentering frame chain is supported, upon vertical chain reversal, for assimilation of the widthwise or lateral pull resulting from a goods web and for assimilation of the weight of the chain itself.
Since the profile in accordance with the invention is formed in two parts, the angular profile part can be released from the U-shaped profile part in a simple manner so that the tentering frame chain is accessible for repair and maintenance purposes.
To exchange worn or damaged sliders, it is not necessary to dismantle the box-shaped profile into its profile parts, if, in accordance with a development of the invention, the sliders are held in grooves which are undercut in a hammerhead-shaped or dovetail-shaped manner in cross-section. The grooves are conveniently formed from C-shaped plate profiles which are fastened to the profile parts by screw bolts having heads which are countersunk in the webs of the plate profiles.
As a result of the latter development, the sliders can be inserted coaxially to the longitudinal direction of the profile, i.e, from the ends of the profile, into the grooves, so that additional fastening means are not needed.
Dispensing with additional fastening means has the further advantage that very long sliders can be inserted into the profile without leading to stressing of the sliders by reason of impeded thermal expansion (as occurs when fasteners are present). As a result of the mounting of the sliders in the manner just proposed, they can vary in their length in an unimpeded manner without fastening means, such as rivets or screws, being caused to shear off or else damage the sliders themselves.
Of course, it lies within the scope of the invention to dispense with the arrangement of the C-shaped plate profiles and to form the undercut grooves directly in the profile parts.
The profile in accordance with the invention is suitable for the guidance and support of a tentering frame chain which is fitted with needle strips. In this instance the end parts of needle-strip supporting arms preferably project into the interior of the profile and butt against the slider which is arranged on the limb of the U-shaped profile part, in which respect each end part is fastened by a screw by way of a distance piece to a strap of a link of the tentering frame chain.
This latter development has the special advantages that a needle-strip supporting are made from plate can be used which can also assimilate the widthwise or lateral pull resulting from the goods web and can transmit same to the slider on the inside of the profile limb and that the fastening of the needle-strip supporting arm to the strap of the chain link is effected by way of a screw by a distance piece which cannot be removed or lost.
The invention will be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a cross-section of a preferred embodiment of the profile of the invention; and Figure 2 is a plan view of a chain link of a tentering frame chain to which a needle-strip supporting arm carrying a needle strip is fastened.
As shown in Fig. 1, a preferred embodiment of the profile of the invention consists of a substantially U-shaped profile part 1 having a horizontally-arranged web 2 and two upright limbs 3 and 4. A limb 6 of an angular profile part 5 is releasably connected to the limb 4 of the U-shaped profile part 1 by means of a screw 7 in such a way that the other limb 8 of the angular profile part 5 is arranged at a spacing parallel to the web 2 of the U-shaped profile part 1. In other words, an overall boxshaped profile is formed which has an open elongate slot 9, because the limb 8 of the profile part 5 is shorter than the web 2 of the profile part 1.
A tentering frame chain consisting of links 10 runs, coaxially to the longitudinal extent of the profile, in the interior of the trough-shaped profile formed in this way.
For guidance and support of the tentering frame chain, sliders 11 are arranged on the inside of the limb 3, the web 2 and the limb 8. The sliders 11 are held in undercut grooves 1 2 which are formed by C-shaped plate profiles 1 3. The plate profiles 1 3 are mounted against the insides of the profile parts 1 and 5 respectively by screw bolts 1 4 having heads 1 5 which are countersunk in the webs of the plate profiles 1 3. The grooves 1 2 may be hammer-head shaped or dovetail-shaped in cross-section, although this is not illustrated in Fig. 1.
An angled end part 1 6 of a needle-strip supporting arm 1 7 projects into the interior of the profile through the slot 9 and butts against one of the sliders 11. By way of a distance piece 1 8 and a screw 1 9 (Fig. 2), the end part 1 6 of the needle-strip supporting arm 1 7 is connected to a strap 20 of the chain link 10.
If chain reversal is effected exclusively in a horizontal plane, guidance and support of the chain is accomplished exclusively by way of the sliders 11 on the limb 3 and the web 2, so that, in this case, the angular profile part 5 with the slider 11 on the limb 8 could be dispensed with. If, however, chain reversal is effected in a vertical plane, support of the tentering frame chain is accomplished, alternating from chain strand to chain strand, by means of the sliders 11 on the web 2 and the sliders 11 on the limb 8 of the angular profile part 5 respectively, as well as by means of the slider 11 on the limb 3.
