Abstract

The apparatus may be wall fixed or free standing and includes top and bottom brackets 21 or 26 designed to receive guide bars 24 and pulleys 22, 23 and 27, attachments being added in such a manner as to enable the weighted member 25 to move up and down the guide bars by means of a pull cord 28 fixed to that member and to handgrips, slings, etc., via the pulleys. The apparatus is so designed to enable the user to engage in various exercises by pulling on cord 28 from various pulley positions. Two handgrips 44 may be joined together with a length of cord 43 which is detachable at its centre point from cord 28 to enable the user to change the motion of the apparatus from the normal inward, upward and downward pulling movements vary the amount of exercises to be to a rotational movement and thus performed. The member 25 has a stub-bar fixed device for carrying bar-bell disc weights and collars-alternatively, this member may be replaced by a fluid-fillable container having one or more sleeves formed therein for receipt of the guide bar(s) or by an attachment incorporating coil springs (Fig. 12-not shown). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Multiple action physical exercise apparatus Exercise equipment e.g. multi gyms, weights, benches etc. are normally too large for use in domestic dwellings, these are often limited in the number of exercises which they are able to perform. They are often relatively expensive for the average person who wishes to participate in regular exercise.
The design features of the apparatus described herein are: The apparatus can be used in the bedroom, bed-sit or in any other room of limited space, and can be fixed in the corner of a room which is not normally used.
The apparatus is designed to give maximum variations of exercise e.g. arms, wrists, shoulders, back, chest, abdomen, legs, etc., with ease of movement.
The apparatus is designed to be used from the standing, lying, sitting and kneeling positions.
It can be used for moderate exercise such as keep-fit or for heavier exercise such as body-building.
The attachments are fully adjustable to suit the needs of all the family.
The apparatus can be used from the fixed wall position, or free standing in a suitable framework, or form part of any other apparatus or appliance.
A specific embodiment of the apparatus will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows in isometric view the apparatus with attachment 25. The apparatus is shown in the position to be used from the bottom pulley 27. Fig. 1 also shows a typical bracket 26 for flat wall application.
Figure 2 shows in isometric view the apparatus with attachment 25 in the position to be used from the top pulleys 22, 23.
Figure 3 shows in isometric view the action of the apparatus from the top pulleys 22, 23.
Figure 4 shows in isometric view the action of the apparatus with attachment 25 and with the linked handgrips attachment 43, 44 from the top pulleys 22, 23 position.
Figure 5 Shows in isometric view the action of the apparatus from the bottom pulley 27 position.
Figure 6 shows in isometric view the action of the apparatus with the linked handgrips attachment 43, 44 from the bottom pulley 27 position.
Figure 7 shows in diagram form, the handgrips 44 attachment in the relaxed position in relation to the position of the main pull cord 28.
Figure 8 shows in diagram form, the handgrips 44 attachment in the working position in relation to the position of the main pull cord 28.
Figure 9 shows in diagram form, the handgrips 44 attachment in the returned position in relation to the position of the main pull cord 28.
Figure 10 shows in isometric view, the attachment (referred to as attachment 25 in accompanying drawings) which consists of; one or more sleeve 45 with or without inner sleeves, connected together with one or more plate 46 to allow the sleeves to move in parallel. A stub-bar 47 is fixed to plate 46 to which can be added, standard bar-bell disc weights and collars. (The stub-bar 47 can protrude one side or both sides of plate 46).
Figure 11 shows in isometric view, the attachment which consists of; a suitable container 48 with one or more sleeve cast or formed in to allow guide bar 24 to pass through. Fluid is added through plug 49 or drained from plug 50 to enable weight adjustment.
Figure 12 shows in isometric view, one or more standard coil spring 51 fixed by means of a detachable clip to a similar attachment to that described for Fig. 10.
Referring to the accompanying drawings the apparatus comprises of wall fixing brackets, these brackets 21, 26 house pulley wheels 22, 23, 27. Fixed to these brackets 21, 26 are detachable guide bars 24, the attachments Figs. 10, 11, 1 2 are added as required to the guide bars 24.
The main pull cord 28 is tied or clipped to a suitable attachment (see Figs. 1 0, 11 12) and taken over pulleys 22 8 23 and attached to pull bar 29, the apparatus is now ready for use from pulley 23 position. (see Fig. 3).
To use the apparatus from the pulley 27 (see Fig. 5) position, first detach the main pull cord 28 from the pull bar 29 and take cord 28 down behind bottom pulley 27, reconnect cord 28 to pull bar 29. The apparatus is now ready for use from the bottom pulley position.
In order to vary the amount of exercises performed at positions shown in Figs. 3 8 5 and as described above, handgrips 44 are connected (see Fig. 7) in such a manner as to enable this to occur. The handgrips 44 are connected together by means of a secondary cord 43, this is attached with a clip 42 at its centremost point to the main pull cord 28.
This can be done at either the top pulley 23 (Fig. 4) or the bottom pulley 27 (Fig. 6) positions.
The action of the apparatus as shown in Fig. 3 is thus; pull on pull bar 29 in the direction of arrow 30, this action will simultaneously lift the attachment (not shown. See Figs. 10, 11, 12) in the direction of arrow 31. By returning the pull bar 29 in the direction of arrow 32, this action simultaneously returns the attachment to its normal position in the direction of arrow 33. This action can be singular or repetitive.
The action of the apparatus as shown in Fig. 5 is as described for that of Fig. 3 above.
The action of the apparatus as shown in Fig. 4 is thus; pull the handgrips (see Fig. 8) apart in the direction of arrows 34 8 35, this action pulls cord 28 in the direction of arrow 36. By returning the handgrips together in the direction of arrows 38 8 39, this action returns cord 28 in the direction of arrow 40 and thus returns the attachment 25 to its normal position in the direction of arrow 41.
This action can be singular or repetitive.
The action of the apparatus as shown in Fig. 6 is as described for that of Fig. 4 above, except that attachment 25 is not shown in Fig. 6.
Handgrips/Foot straps attachment (Figs. 7, 8, 9) consists of; two handgrips 44, (slings, straps etc.) connected together with a secondary cord 43 of desired length. Cord 43 is fixed at its centre-most point to the main ~apparatus cord 28 by any suitable means e.g.
ti--, clip swivel clip etc., to enable the handgrips 44 to travel in a spherical motion, though not restrictive to a parailel motion. A typical exercise using this attachment is from Fig. 7 to Fig. 8 and back to Fig. 9. This action can be singular or repetitive.
Guide bar 24 can consist of; round, square tube or bar, box section or flat strip of suitable width and height, or any other similar component to allow motion of the apparatus as described herein.
Pulleys 22, 23, 27 can be housed in brackets as shown in Fig. 1, or fixed elsewhere e.g.
directly into guide bars, between guide bars or in special brackets independant of the apparatus or any other position to achieve the motion of the apparatus as described herein.
